Meet William H. Ashe. That's kind of like William H. Macy, so it must be a sign, right? William Ashe is 30 years old, but he seems more like 16, still living at home with mother with no concrete plans in life other than a belief in signs, which today, have him convinced to be an actor. And with all the signs in place, William Ashe travels to the big city all by himself to audition for a movie in this absurd character study where life may lead anywhere once you choose to see the signs. And even though murder, mayhem, and mistaken identity sidetrack him along the way, a sign's a sign... right? Written by Sam Holdren

Quirky and Pleasant Film
21 May 2007 | by mark-960See all my reviews

"Audition" is an interesting short that contains many genres wrapped up into one quirky film. It stands up well despite its low budget. Todd Waters is perfect as the sappy lead and the rest of the cast deliver solid performances under the steady direction of Sam W. Holdren.

Taking over two years to make, and well worth it, "Audition" is not perfect but certainly that deserves repeated viewing. Great locations and an interesting twisted plot set the backdrop for this dark-comedy/mystery full of many memorable characters.

It's a little bit of "Forest Gump" mixed with Hitchcock and Altman. Could be a festival sleeper.
