Mart Laisk/The Father had a similar experience (his son wanting to commit suicide) in his own life.
Kristjan Kasearu (Magnus) is a famous pop-star and singer in Estonia.
Kristjan Kasearu (Magnus) got the role one day before the shooting began. Mart Laisk (The Father) had seen him playing Romeo in a musical "Romeo and Juliet" some days before and recommended him to the director Kadri Kousaar. Kousaar made a screen test for Kasearu, and was so impressed with the result that she immediately offered him the role of Magnus, and canceled the contract with the actor who had got the role two months before.
This is the first Estonian feature film to be independently produced and financed.
