I always enjoy the Village Hall dramas, they are charming in their own way, a snippet into life for a group of individuals, the tussles and complexities that existed within the class system.
Here the village hall committee have decided to update the traditional Queen of the May competition, and transform it into a Beauty queen competition. It's a fun look into the dynamic of the contestants, the tricks they'd do to win, but also shows the way women were perceived at the time. Second class or empowered, make your own mind.
Sue Nichols is a joy as are the entire cast, but as always it's Elizabeth Springs who steals the show, she is magical.
It's not for everyone, and it certainly wouldn't be made now, but I loved it. 9/10
