- A human explorer boards a primitive submarine to explore the undersea realm, and crosses paths with Ariel.
- Ariel pines wih curiousity about humans and takes Flounder with her to meet Arcamedies, an older merman who's a humanologist and attempts to explain to Ariel about human things. (Arcamedies would've been a great character for further episodes as well as the orignal TLM film, but he only appears in this episode.) As well Sebastian's taking his three little crab scouts on a camping trip in the wilderness nearby.
During their adventures together that day, a man in his late 20s or early 30s, enters a submarine shaped like a fish and he and his pet cat dive under water o explore the bottom of the sea. He is amazed at all of the sights he sees, until his fish submarine springs a leak. Ariel, Flounder, Arcamedies, Sebastian & the crab scouts, and eventually even Triton, find the submarine and try to rescue the passengers. THere's a moment when Ariel and the passenger stare at each other, and you wonder at the connection they make, but then Triton sends the metal fish back to the surface.
The passenger is the rescued by his ship and taken back to Denmark, where he writes about his adventures in a story he titles "The Little Mermaid." Yes the passenger of the metal fish/submarine was supposed to have been Hans Christian Anderson in approximately 1835.
