- Hibiki Tokai, a teenage boy working as a parts mechanic, tries to steal a Vanguard from a newly commissioned battleship. He ends up having more to deal with, however, when a group of female pirates attack.
- The citizens of the men's planet Taraak prepare to launch the Ikezuchi, a newly commissioned space battleship. Third-class laborer Hibiki Tokai, a teenager working as a parts mechanic, regrets mouthing off to his fellow workers about saying he's going to steal a Vanguard, a large robot built for combat. The mechanics help make the parts for the robots, but never get to actually see them. To save his pride, Hibiki decides to follow through with his plan to steal one.
Hibiki sneaks on board the Ikezuchi, but his plans are nearly thwarted when has trouble getting access. He finally gets in and locates the Vanguard he wanted, which has a part with a scratch he made on it to help identify it. Just as he is about to climb aboard, however, the Ikezuchi launches, knocking him off balance. Hibiki panics upon realizing he is being launched into space.
On board the Ikezuchi as part of its launching ceremony are Bart Garsus, a first-class citizen whose rich parents own a food production company, as well as Duelo McFile, a licensed medical practitioner. Bart tries to offer some of his parents' food to the others on board, but they turn him down. The conversation is interrupted by a video showcasing the ship's Vanguards. When the video ends, the loading bay is revealed to the attendees. Hibiki is discovered and tries to escape, but is captured and thrown into a brig cell being used for storage.
Meanwhile, a group of pirates from the women's planet Mejere attack. The Ikezuchi launches its Vanguards to fight. Hibiki manages to escape the holding cell, but seeing the small robot that was sent to guard him now offline, he grabs it and runs toward the loading bay as the pirates attack and board. To prevent the Ikezuchi from falling into the hands of the women, its commander orders the ship separated and escapes with some of the men on the newer part of the ship. The older portion, with the other men still on board, remains behind and is captured.
Having been knocked out in the attack, Hibiki comes to and finds himself face to face with Dita, one of the women pilots, who becomes enamored with him and calls him "Mr. Alien." He takes off running and she chases after him, appearing to be more curious about him than threatening him. Meanwhile, the remaining men escape in pods, leaving Bart, Duelo, and Hibiki behind.
To prevent the women from capturing the old section, the Ikezuchi's commander orders torpedoes fired at it to destroy it. The torpedoes hit the section, but instead of destroying it, send Hibiki, Duelo, Bart, and the pirates into an apparent wormhole.
