Not merely a FFO but the great-granddaddy of the FFOs
A_Different_Drummer14 March 2015
FFO episodes are "for fans only." They have special meaning only for those who have watched every episode and are in sync with the story. To a stranger, they are just a big headache.

This is not merely a FFO, but this could set the bar as THE FFO for all series present and future.

There is stuff going on here involving ancient rivalries, ancient loves, ancient plots, and yes the common theme is "ancient" -- if you don't remember the earlier episodes, you are not going to get it.

If you do, this one is a WOW.

Every possible emotional chord is punched and punched hard.

The memories of a daughter for her father.

Would sacrifice would you make to save the one you loved? Would you knowingly put a child in harm's way? Most astonishing of all, buried in the episode is a "trope" about building a house in your head because you never had the chance to build one in reality.

The emotional impact of this is off the charts. Watching this episode in 2015, I am astonished no one in Hollywood ever riffed a film off the idea.

Oh well, it's early. I expect the IMDb to be around for a while. Give it a decade or two and let's see what happens...

Escape and kidnap

Warning: Spoilers
When Caprica Six informs the president that she will be requesting the return of Boomer so they can try her for treason Chief Tyrol starts to visit her in the brig then goes to see the president to plead for Boomer's life. When he is refused he helps her escape from the brig. Once out she incapacitates Athena and takes Hera before preparing to take Athena's place in a routine raptor patrol. Meanwhile Starbuck is spending time in the bar and befriends the piano player; as they talk she reveals that she played as a child and they play a bit together; at this point she realises a picture Hera had given her could be music. When they attempt to play it Tigh and Tory recognise it immediately; it was the tune the four members of the Final Five heard as they approached the nebula at the end of season three.

While not packed with action this episode was still gripping and more emotional than most; first we are encouraged to sympathise with Chief Tyrol as he struggles to save a woman he loves then it is revealed that she is just after Hera and will do what it takes to get her... including rendering Athena unconscious and having sex with Helo! Grace Park did a fine job in the duel roles of Boomer and Athena. Aaron Douglas was also good as Tyrol; brilliantly portraying a man desperate to help somebody he loved then realising he'd been played. The secondary story line wasn't as good but was still interesting; perhaps that tune will have even more significance later. The atmosphere of this episode was increased by the constant creaking noises coming from Galactica's hull; clearly the old bird is approaching the end of her life as is the series.

Side issue revisited

Warning: Spoilers
In my review of the previous episode, I commented how it seems that the people with the most integrity have been getting shafted in the progression of the plot, except for Athena and Helo. Now the list is complete. The writers shaft the most admirable people in the story (Cally, Dee, Caprica Six, Felix (to a point), and now Athena and Helo. I inadvertently left out Anders. His prognosis is looking pretty poor at this point.

Highly Underrated,So say we all.

'Someone to Watch Over Me' Is No Doubt The Best episode Of Battlestar Galactica,The Greatest Sc-Fi show ever,

"Wow" is the first reaction you will get when This Episode Ends. Not even they managed to keep the tension in the first part of this episode, they managed to almost stop our hearts in middle and blow it at the end. And Honestly That Piano Music Gave us Goosebumps. Every viewer felt as heartbroken as Chief. Cylon or human it does'not matter,A Man(Or Cylon) mad in love can do anything. This show has reached its zenith with this episode, getting into the profound level Of Survival Of Species as we reaching towards finale.
