Furthermore, does her at least temporary underprivileged background mean that she always hails from the benighted hinterlands, or would this unfortunate backstory be just for this one Popeye episode? Arguably, she could be doing a really good job of covering up her seedy upbringing in all of her other series outings, and just "slipped up" here when exposed to her deficient native element. Your guess is as good as mine.
