- Bert fabricates stories for the Evergreen Standard. But when he learns that Cyril wants to pave the forest because of persistent insomnia, nobody believes him when he tells his friends.
- The Evergreen Forest is full of fascinating stories, especially if you are an Ace Reporter like Bert Raccoon! Bert has been reporting some very strange happenings lately, but no-one will believe his stories. Schaeffer the Dog has begun speaking in a strange code, and The Raccoons' friend Cedric seems to have disappeared in a tornado! Long black limousines and cement trucks are thundering down the road to Sneer Mansion. Gangster Bears carrying violin cases have been seen running through the Evergreen Forest. Worst of all, very strange tuneless singing has been heard coming from Cyril Sneer's bedroom. As usual, the cigar chomping Cyril Sneer is upto no good. The Raccoons and their friends discover Cyril has plans to pave the Evergreen Forest! And all because he can't get to sleep. To help save the forest, Sophia creates a mystery lady who captures the heart of the sleepless Cyril. Meanwhile, a crazed continental chef is wreaking havoc with Cyril's bumbling bears in the kitchen of Sneer Mansion. All this and more adds up to a big headline for The Evergreen Standard and The Raccoons in "Cry Wolf!" a fun filled Raccoon adventure.—Anonymous
- Ralph and Melissa Raccoon assign Bert to come up with a news story for the Evergreen Standard. Requesting a weather report, Bert then shocks them by saying there was a tornado that struck, and carried off Cedric Sneer.
Everyone is in shock, until Cedric appears, and it is found out that Bert fabricated a false story. Ralph lectures Bert that they need 'real' news stories in order to be a credible newspaper.
Bert and Cedric then go out looking for another story, when they encounter Shaffer with bubbles, seemingly babbling about looking for a rubber ducky, and claiming there's a moose that squeaks.
Bert reports this to Ralph claiming their friend has become a 'mad dog,' when Shaffer shows up without the bubbles on his face. It soon becomes apparent that what Bert saw were soap bubbles, and Shaffer was looking for a playtoy to help Brew take a bath. Ralph once again scolds Bert for jumping to conclusions.
Bert then wanders around the Evergreen Forest as night sets in, when he is almost run down by a black sedan speeding towards Sneer Mansion. Bert follows, and is surprised to see several bears in trenchcoats, carrying around violin cases.
Bert takes photos and rushes back to tell Ralph...only to find he had forgotten to load film in the camera. Bert begs Ralph to believe him, and Ralph goes along. However, upon arriving at Sneer Mansion, they find that the violin cases do contain violins, and the bears were working with the pigs to pick up items to help Cyril get to sleep (as he has a bad case of insomnia). Ralph leaves, convinced that he can't trust Bert, while Bert sticks around thinking something really is going on.
Late in the evening, Bert sits on a branch outside Cyril's room. The branch suddenly snaps and Bert's cry of surprise startles Cyril out of his sleep. Bert then hears Cyril decree that the forest is too noisy, and orders the pigs to call in cement trucks to demolish the forest and pave it all over in concrete.
Bert rushes off to tell Ralph, but Ralph doesn't believe him after all the false alarms before. Bert then goes off to get proof. First disguising himself as a chef, and then as a fictional television personality and sleep expert called "Auntie Bertha". His ruse as Auntie Bertha works and Cyril is put to sleep, with the additional help of a massage. However, Bert's brooch gets caught beneath Cyril's arm and the whole top of his dress rips off. The pigs find him out and kick him out of the mansion.
The next day, Bert is shocked when he is accosted by the pigs and brought before Cyril as Auntie Bertha so they can tear off his disguise and reveal him as a fraud.
Cyril then finds himself also having to deal with the fleet of cement trucks he ordered to pave over the forest. Bert then manages to work out a deal: in exchange for Cyril stopping the cement trucks, Bert is willing to give the pigs advice on how to help put Cyril to sleep.
Ralph and Melissa appreciate the story that Bert uncovered, and have also allowed him an Auntie Bertha column, which has gotten them new subscribers.
