A portrait of an artist .
markadahl25 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I once said to Trixie Mattel, "enjoy the ride" after her appearance on drag race. The look of hurt on her face shocked me and I've regretted saying it ever since. Her reply was ," I created this ride and I'm in control of it."

Last night I rented Trixie Mattel's "moving parts" and I'm so thrilled I did! Get ready to jump into the drivers seat.

What could easily be self indulgent, is a drag-a-liciously painted portrait of an artist who works non stop in order to live up to his self created flawless media persona and who consistently asks the question, "am I enough".

The doc chronicles life on the road of a brassy drag queen , comedian , actor , singer, musician bombshell Barbie or a she calls herself "a thing" who at the end of the day is a sensitive artistic introverted perfectionist.

One of the strongest messages of the film is about the ups and downs of loving someone with mental illness when they can't love themselves and the true meaning of friendship.

Other themes include growing up as an outsider in a straight mans world, the bright yet sometimes Lonely life of a performer and the responsibility of becoming a gay hero.

The film is a touching heartfelt look at a little boy who still plays dress up and used his weirdness to fulfill his dreams .

Loved it.

I'm a big fan of Trixie but I had to find my owning in this movie
gutierrezprecilla21 August 2021
I love (almost) everything Trixie does. I love everything Trixie and Katya do as well! That being said, I wasn't expecting much with this film and I got a lot more out of it. I think it's supposed to be a look into Trixie's life as a performer but as others described, it was sad and somber. I felt like the movie shed light on how Trixie is a martyr in her day to day life... for her family, fans, and even friendships. It wasn't this campy high glam production that I was expecting but I'm pleasantly surprised. It was a bit boring at times but it the whole situation with Katya, her mom, and retelling her trauma just broke my heart. I had to take a break midway because it reminded me so much of my friends and family.

A sombre documentary
sanjaya-william6 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Film sets this mood throughout like devoid of glam, like it's all normal, ups and downs in career and friendship are no big deal, just projecting the total opposite of the celebratory, standing up for something kinda nature of RPDR. A bit like brokeback mountain--or maybe I'm dull and that's just country, 3 chords and the truth.

Love Trixie's music
gallagherkellie7 July 2020
Her music is great, such a talent. But I have to say the documentary was a little boring. I thought it would be a bit more of an autobiography of her life but it just followed her around for a few months on tour. The Katya story created some drama and juiciness. Without that not much would have happened. But in saying that I really like Trixie!

Heartfelt and Beautiful
robmag-8803922 December 2019
Brian's true nature and talent really shines in this documentary. He's someone who truly cares for the people in his life and is a true friend. It's so refreshing to see someone in the entertainment industry who is authentic and real. This film follows Trixie through extreme highs and extreme lows and highlights just how strong and beautiful he is. Beautiful inside and out. I was never a fan of drag before I discovered Trixie. Moving Parts is the only film I've ever purchased online and it was worth every penny! If you love Trixie you will love moving parts!

You Are Either A Fan Or Not, No In Between
davidsask6 December 2019
It is always nice to find out a person's personal story; Family one being such case in this documentary. The remainder of documentary brings very little new. On and off viewers of RPDR already aware of large majority shown here of Katya problematic.

Trixie's off color humor is top three for me of RPDR queens gunning for Bianca Del Rio status. I am not a fan of Trixie's music genre heavily profiled here. Mad props for charting well with it, Have that talent to fall back on if needed. PS. I won't say who that appears in this documentary, but her doc is a must! 6/10

A beautiful behind the scenes of a Gay Icon
fshardlow4 April 2020
Such a lovely and raw insight into the life of one of the most famous drag queens in the world right now. This documentary wasn't glitzy, wasn't glamorous... it was real. We never get to see behind closed doors of a famous drag queen's life, this documentary just gave me such a deeper understanding of Brian's life. It made me see how much he cares for people.

I also think it's so great how this documentary allowed us to see the up and down relationship between Trixie and Katya, because whild they're still both incredible on their own, as a pair their chemistry is just undeniably loveable. They're iconic! Seeing a darker side to Katya was really upsetting, but it also just highlights how much the pair have been through together.

Really loved this, It's given me a whole load more respect for Trixie Mattel.

Such a great, intimate look behind the make-up. A raw and personal doco highlighting the importance of keeping a check on our own, and other's mental health. Watching Trixie in all her Barbie technicolour fabulousity travel America while so much goes on makes this an amazing watch.

A beautiful documentary Warning: Spoilers
A really lovely, heartfelt documentary. Some really emotional moments with Katya which I wasn't expecting. Brian comes across as such a lovely person and so down-to-earth. His music is so clever and always nice to listen to. Overall a great watch.

For Trixie Mattel super fans and fans of RPDR
paper-screams18 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this movie come out, I didn't watch it. I think it was more a projection of my own thoughts and feelings and I wasn't ready. Well, I finally watched it on Netflix and I'm so glad I did. I never knew the background behind Trixie & Katya's show on Viceland. I wanted to watch it and support them but I didn't and still don't have cable.

Moving Parts was a really interesting view into Brian's/Trixie's life behind the scenes, with short excerpts of seeing the glam/popular life, and then a lot of the things that happen out of the public's eye.

I've always loved Katya, but I had no idea what happened with the TV show so seeing her leave the show so abruptly and seeing how Trixie handled it; I have the utmost respect for Brian/Trixie's actions in response to this. He said, 'Friendship first, business partner second'. Trixie told Katya, in scenes we don't see, but came out later by Katya, that Trixie told Katya, 'I will always be here for you. I will always be your friend'. And in Moving Parts, we hear Trixie say, 'I just want my friend back. I'd rather have my friend back than all of this'.

So overall, we get to see Trixie's life - in and out of the limelight. And it's heartfelt. It was hard seeing Katya that way. But Trixie was so kind and forgiving. Trixie understands that mental health is a struggle for Katya and her dependence on substances have been a long time struggle for Katya. Trixie is there for Katya, because Katya is family to Trixie. And Trixie is a loyal friend.

I also loved the soundtrack - all Trixie's music. Very cool.

A true insight into drag nowadays
eirn29 May 2020
Along with giving you a no holds barred insight into the performer behind Trixie Mattel, this film truly gives a someone with no knowledge of drag a better understanding of the world of drag today. Also on the base level it shows a performer hitting major milestones in their career whilst having to deal with hardships in their personal life. I really loved this film and have returned to it several times since first watching it. I would recommend it for anyone to watch!!
