In 2020....

There's just something hilarious about Bill Cosby being held up as the self-appointed Guardian of Morals and Image for black people.

30 Rock did a great job of anticipating the 2008 election a year before the candidates were even nominated. Part of me wants to believe that the Cosby as leader of the Black Avengers was a joke before its time and it would be years before anyone realized what 30 Rock did there. I want to believe....

Funny, Funny, and even Funnier!

The twentieth episode in the first season of 30 Rock is another funny episode despite some increasing silliness. But the more silly it gets, the funnier the show is. There are some weird stuff here, but you can't help but being amused. The guest stars are great complements(I'm looking at you Emily Mortimer.)

This episode, "Cleveland," has Liz considering moving to Cleveland with Floyd. Jack is having sexual problems with Phoebe and he wants her to have a girl's night out with Liz and Jenna. Finally, Tracy is suffering from some paranoia after he believes the Black Crusaders are after him for portraying blacks in a negative way.

Overall, this is a really funny episode mainly in part of the Black Crusaders subplot. That's a very silly subplot but it manages to work because of Tracy Morgan. I couldn't help but laughing a lot. I rate episode 9/10.

Cleveland (#1.20)

Warning: Spoilers
Liz thinks of moving to Cleveland with Floyd, but realizes that her life is in New York.

Tracy is all paranoid that Black Crusaders are after him after he reads the negative remark Bill Cosby made about him.

And Liz suspects that Phoebe is a gold digger who is not even British.

A nice episode. Emily Mortimer is great as Phoebe. A very original character and she plays her in a very creepy way. I liked the Sex and the City joke Jenna made.

Tracy storyline was pretty good. I liked the most how Jack ended up running when he heard about the Black Crusaders

The Black Crusaders

With the first, hilarious season of 30 Rock coming to an end (still one episode after this one), the jokes just keep getting funnier. Like Arrested Development before it, 30 Rock appears to be set to become the new Seinfeld: the sillier the ideas, the better.

Case in point: still unable to get his Jefferson biopic financed, Tracy panics once he starts suspecting the Black Crusaders, a covert organization that punishes black people who are negative role models, are coming after him (apparently, Bill Cosby himself is an important member). Liz dismisses that theory as garbage, primarily because she has her own concerns, namely that Floyd asked her to move with him to his hometown, Cleveland, where he got a new job and apartment. Furthermore, Jack has sexual problems with his fiancée, Phoebe, and asks Liz and Jenna to hang out with her. Turns out the sweet lady might not be what she seems.

Overall, this is am episode dominated by Liz and Tracy, the latter's paranoia providing great expectations for the season finale and the former's interaction with Phoebe spawning a superb Sex and the City reference. Comedy dialogue has hit a new high. Oh, and the Cleveand montage is spot-on. 'Nuff said.

Cleveland is hilarious next-to-last season episode of 30 Rock
tavm29 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Jack, having just come back from his Paris honeymoon with Phoebe, suggests to Liz that she and Jenna should have lunch with her. Liz finds she and Phoebe have nothing in common while Jenna compares them to the Sex and the City gals with Liz being the "one who is watching the show". Tracy can't get financing for his Jefferson movie and finds out Bill Cosby and the Black Crusaders are after him. Floyd, having been passed for a promotion and a new apartment, goes with Liz to his hometown, Cleveland, and gets a job offer there. He wants Liz to move with him...Lots of funny stuff happening in this episode like Liz' cell playing a Wagner tune that Liz likes because Elmer Fudd sang it as Jenna warbles "Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit!" Nice comment from Lester Holt on TV telling Jordan directly, "The Black Crusaders are coming for you!" And an affectionately funny song about how great Cleveland is is spot on during the montage of Liz and Floyd traveling the city's sights. One more episode left before the season finale. I can hardly wait!

Guest starring Emily Mortiner and Eric Dysart

Warning: Spoilers
I like 30 Rock and it's easy to forget that this debuted alongside NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. The latter was considered the one that would survive, and indeed it got higher ratings. But it was 30 Rock that survived due to lower production costs. The rest is history.

Dr Bill Cosby is in the script for this episode along with the reference to the interweb! Very hilarious and kind of prescient as well.
