The Writers are imposing Italian Culture, Values, Morals, on U.S. Military Dependents, as to how Italian Adolesense behave, believe.
U.S. Military Dependents are not like Civilians of any Nation, their Parents are usually "Authoritarian" (Strict), as their U.S. Military Dependent(s) can destroy their U.S. Military Career.
Death of a U.S. Military Service Member, as Standard Operating Procedure of United States Army Europe (USAREUR) and previous Southern European Task Force (SETAF) Italy, Turkey, Greece, especially during the War at Iraq and Afghanistan as happened so often the mistakes were corrected very quickly. After being notified, the Deceased U.S. Military Service Members U.S. Military Dependents are watched mostly as a Suicide Watch, they are NOT allowed "Off Base" or if they live "Off Base", "On the Ecnonomy" they are moved On Base to the Temorary Quarters, Guest Quarters.
They are informed by the Unit's Appointed on Orders Survivor Assistance Officer of what happens next. After "the In Country Ceremony" they are given Airline Tickets, Orders to their "Home of Record" to be with Relatives and Friends. A Limited Power of Attorney is given to a Unit Member to pack their belongs, arrange shipment of their belongings Stateside.
Stateside They are greeted by another Appointed Survival Assitance Officer, that has arrange their meeting the Deceased Service Members remains at the Airport, as another Cerimony arranged by the Survival Assistance Officer that also arranged Funderal Arrangements, Memorial Service, Honor Guard to meet the Deceased Service Members remains and during the burial or inernment Ceremony.
Ever since being a O-1 Second Lieutenant, Ensign you are given Classes and told what happens to you in accordance with the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, UCMJ, what happens to you if you "Conduct Unbecoming of An Officer" as to WHY Lieutenant Colonel Richard Poythress would NEVER do that, maybe you could do that within the Italian Military, NEVER the U.S. Military. When you go to the Schools required to be a Major , O-4, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Fort Leavenworth Kansas you are shown the Prisoners as to what will happen if you "Conduct Unbecoming of An Officer' or any UCMJ Violations., When you attend Command And General Staff College Fort Leavenworth Kansas, required to become a Lieutenant Colonel O-5, Colonel O-6 again you are shown the Prisoners at Fort Leavenworth's Disciplinary Barracks. OF COURSE THESE ITALIAN WRITERS DO KNOW MUCH.
When I was a U.S. Military Dependent at Europe, I bought a Eurail Pass, that allows you to travel by Rail of any European Nation anywhere for the amount of time you purchased. The worst Rail was Italy, the Rail we were on broke down, after that train was move to a side track, the replacement broke down someplace, the other replacement coming from the direction we were originally going to broke down. The Italian Air Transportation is just as screwed up. We ended up stuck on the Rail Platform for Two (2) Days. using our sleeping bags, I finally decided I had enough caught a ride to the Airport, and got a German Airlines Flight out of Italy. As a U.S. Military Officer decades later working at Three (3) Locations at Italy 2 U.S. Army and 1 U.S. Navy, on a U.S. and NATO National Security Construction Project the situation did not change. The reason this happens, is by Italian Laws, what I encountered the Italians started work at 0800 hours anything earlier meant 1.5 time more pay, they "clocked in" at 0800 hours are given time to change from their Civilian Clothes to their Coveralls. At about 1000 hours they go to a locker room shower, bathe, change into their Civilian Clothes then clocked out about 1100 hours for a By Italian Law 2 Hour Lunch. At 1300 hours they return from Lunch, they change from Civilian Clothes to Coveralls, then clock in even though after 1300 hours they are still counted as having started at 1300 hours. At 1530 hours they go to the Locker Room shower, bathe, change into Civilian Clothes, and leave work at 1600 hours. If you do the basic mathematics you figure out how few hours they Work compared to how many hours they are paid, this took a lot of getting used to, after doing the National Security Construction Project at other European Nations especially the within seconds of the scheduled time Germans. The Writers depicted an Italian Rail Train being on time, ridcuelous. Today's example would be Italian Rail AnsaldoBreda S.p.A., was so screwed up they went Bankrupt after being Contracted by the City and County of Honolulu, instead of the amount estimated the Cost is now over $10 Billion, a lot has to do with the effects of how many Hours by Italian Laws Italians can Manufacturer the Rail Cars.
