The film is an adaptation of a children novel 'A crystal key, or A tale of us' by Alexander Adabashyan and Anna Tchernakova, first published in 2013 (AST).
The film received a Russian Film Academy (Zolotoi Orel) nomination for set design (production designer Alexander Adabashyan).
Film employs various kinds of hand-made animation, combined with live action.
Composer Gavin Bryars wrote on of the cues while waiting for a taxi at the hotel lobby after attending "Other minds' festival in San-Francisco. The music was emailed to the sound recording studio in Moscow, the parts printed and the cue was recorded the very same day by the Russian State Symphony Cinema Orchestra under the conduction of Sergei Skripka.
