Biggest disappointment of Bollywood
meenotigoswami15 March 2021
Roohi- I had a huge expectations from this movie as I Loved Stree so much.I even requested the makers on twitter to release it on Ott but I thought it's better to delay and watch it in theater as horror movies can be best enjoyed in theater.Thankfully it became the first movie to get released fully in theater after pandemic. So I was very excited to watch it but it left me very very disappointed.

The movie has no story, no scare and no logic. The writing is so bad that it will make movie like Laxmi look like Oscar winner.I feel comedy should be 30% and horror 70% in every horror comedy but here it is opposite.Direction and screenplay is bad too.

As far as acting is concerned Raj Kumar Rao was somewhat tolerable so is his boss in the movie.Varun Sharma did his best to ruin the interest of the audience in the movie. He was simply pathetic.Jhanvi did her best but script let her down.Only one song "Kiston" is good.Location of the jungle at night in the first half was good.Second half and climax was dud.

Overall after a huge satisfaction from Stree, this one comes as the biggest disappointment of Bollywood. It is not even 1% as good as Stree.Avoid it.

Roohi is nothing but a spoofy joke under the name of Horror-comedy. A wholesome disaster, exactly half of "Stree".
SAMTHEBESTEST11 March 2021
Roohi (2021) : Movie Review :

In 2018, Maddock Studios amd Director Amar Kaushik established an idea of Horror-comedy genre in bollywood with a blockbuster movie 'Stree' and since then there hasn't been any film going close to it. The same production house decided to convert it into an horror-universe and that's where the idea of Roohi was born with different parents, i mean different writers and director. Unfortunately, the idea is completely destroyed by the new guardians and the child is born lame this time. Roohi just didn't fail to understand the criteria of horror-comedy but also fails to deliver the content even in Horror and Comedy individual genres.

Roohi is a story of an young girl named Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor) who is haunted by the ghost called Afza. The infamous duo of crime reporters played by Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma kidnaps Roohi to marry her with someone against her will, but then both of them falls in love with her from different point of view. This creates a confusing yet hilarious narrative which ends up on a pathetic note where neither one of them makes sense. Roohi falters in keeping the engaging elements alive because of outdated an forceful regional humour. The writing tries too hard to bring intentional laughter but fails miserably due to the poor structure of it.

Performance wise, Janhvi Kapoor is the name who actually gets something in sense of acting because of the dual role she plays. She looks cute as Roohi and the exact same horrible in Afza's get up, so the variable nature makes her character interesting. Somehow the soulless construction and less dialogues reduces the quality of work which is highly disappointing. Talking about the crazy duo of Rajkummar and Varun, yes the chemistry and bromance is enjoyable at some occasions, thanks to the slapstick one liners but both of them don't actually get anything to showcase their acting talent. The supporting cast is strictly average, nothing to be mentioned here.

Roohi is not a long film but it looks long because of boring narrative. The comedy factors aren't high and the horror show is poor as well. Most of the times it leaves audience in predictable situations therefore the excitement for the upcoming scene is never built. When something seems to feel interesting towards the end (of course because we realise that it is going to end soon), it shuffles the entire plot in completely different direction where the dead end is absolutely childish. Dialogues are over humourous with extra regional accent while some of them are not even understandable. Director Hardik Mehra picks a blunder to carry forward the excellency of 'Stree' but he forgets that it was directed by a sensible director like Amar Kaushik who knew exactly what to do with the script. The biggest difference between Roohi and Stree is the writer-director combo, and hopefully the makers would think about it with upcoming films in this horror-universe. Overall, Roohi is another disaster during the pandemic season and we certainly need a vaccine to survive the quality of bollywood movies.

A Dull Stree.
Tejas_Vinda_AITS11 March 2021
Movie is a rather DULL ATTEMPT at trying to scare people while making them laugh. Neither of the two click.

Movie has some spirit but no soul.

*Jhanvi Kapoor cannot act..!!*

'tasteless jokes, wasted opportunity'

the narrative has more lows than highs. By the end of it - The noisy churail becomes almost impossible to hear,, !

O Roohi Kal Mat Aana!

Watch it Only at home when it comes on OTT.

All said and done, Roohi has its moments, but they're very few.

One of the worsts!
omishagupta19 March 2021
Not at all engaging movie, you'd feel like leaving the hall within first half only. There are multiple reasons for that:

  • Whole movie is shot in dark
  • RajKumar's language is making it complicated to understand
  • Jahnvi has no dialogue at all
  • THE BIGGEST FACTOR - S T O R Y, this is completely illogical and irrational.

All these factors cumulatively make it tough to conceive.

Not as bad as most reviewers are saying..it's not as good as stree, but still a lot of fun
pulse-anurag13 April 2021
Watch it people. It's not bad at all. Simple comic fun, Rajkumar rao is good as ever, choocha isn't too bad, Jhanvi dosent have many lines, and her face is hidden under make up most of the time, so is bearable... Some of the jokes are quite good.

Don't expect it to be a sequel of Stree
alcanindita11 April 2021
I can't say i loved the movie, but liked it a lot. The actual concept of consent is so refreshing. Excellent acting by almost everyone, particularly Rajkumar Rao, Varun Sharma and Sarita Joshi. Jahnavi had nothing more to do, but she looked so lovely and put her best foot forward. Just one glitch editing could have been better.

P. S.- this movie has nothing to do with Stree. Don't expect a sequel.

One-time watch
anubhavchattoraj14 April 2021
The main problem is that the whole story is told from the male leads' perspective, but 10 minutes before the ending the movie suddenly remembers that it was supposed to be a feminist story. (Jahnvi Kapoor being a terrible actor doesn't help things at all.)

Still, I found the beginning and middle pretty funny.. (Although half of the humour was just the characters mispronouncing English words. It's a movie which aspires to be feminist but expects you to laugh at the lower classes simply because they're lower class.)

Most of the scenes have been copied from Hollywood and the film story is not streamlined and lots of over acting can be seen in the film.

Disgusting
summaiyanaaz11 March 2021
Overacting all the way. Rajkumar Rao is just overacting. He is just dependent on good scripts for acting. Else he cannot carry with his performance. Jhanvi Kapoor OMG she is just terrible & over-hyped. She just can't act (has potential BTW IMO) . She is known only for looks. Saving part was only Varun Sharma he is just a saving entertaining part.

Pathetic Direction & story writing along with the screen play is an insult to the Horror Universe First Part STREE

Complete garbage movie
bijaysahukumar16 March 2021
This movie is a complete waste of time, pathetic overacting dull script and horrible locations. Jhanvi kapoor acting is from another dimension that requires deep knowledge of space and time to understand her expression. Outstanding flop movie , this is what happens when you cast nepo kids.

Hmmm...
Rishav198736512 March 2021
In the 2018 'Stree', Bollywood gave us A Ghost Who Walks, her twisted 'ultey' feet leaving tracks of gleeful subversion in the small town she haunts. A few hiccups notwithstanding, 'Stree' was a sharp feminist comment on the age-old fear of strong, desirous women. With the same producer and lead actor toplining 'Roohi', this week's new release in theatres, I was hoping for an encore. Sadly, the Dinesh Vijan-Rajkummar Rao's horror comedy is just plain horrible, with not one laugh in sight. There's nothing funny about 'pakdaai shaadi', in which young women are kidnapped and forced into unwanted marriages. Every time a film decides to bring it up, it makes you cringe. Why would a film in this day and age want to give space to this 'tradition' that should have been deep-sixed long back? 'Roohi' spends too much of its opening in setting up one such 'kidnap', for the benefit of a naive, open-mouthed 'gora' played by Alexx O'Nell, which brings together a couple of small-town layabouts, Bhawra played by Rajkummar Rao, and Kattani, played by Varun Sharma, and a shy young woman Roohi, played by Janhvi Kapoor, and deposits them in the middle of a jungle, for no good reason. A muscle-bound hood played by Manav Vij, shows up once in a while. Why? We never quite get it. The characters mumble, and fumble, and it's all a jumble. There's something up with Roohi. The two fellows soon discover that she is a shape-shifter, switching from a whisper to a roar whenever she feels like it. There was potential to this idea: a woman is never just one thing, or another. She has as much right to be many entities, as anyone else. But the film squanders it with great determination, and tasteless jokes. What's missing is a coherent plot and writing. All we get is one cringe-inducing sequence after the next 'jhaad-phoonk', exorcism, women in chains, where we are treated to problematic lines: when, when will mainstream movies stop terming wives 'chudails'? No, it never was funny; the usage now just arouses fury. Just tossing in one line as a disclaimer that the film doesn't encourage superstition, is not a buy-out. Neither is the reliable Rao's presence, usually a guarantee of quality. Sharma's brand of dialogue delivery already feels jaded. Kapoor tries gamely, but never gets a break-out right till the end. This is all I have to say.

Severely Problematic Premise
mugdha-4476610 April 2021
I really wanted to like this movie, but I could not get past watching the first 20 minutes, due to the extremely problematic premise of Bride Kidnapping. What was even more frustrating was the how lightly this concept was explained and normalized. Sad!

vluckylkv12 March 2021
After watching the trailer I was convinced that jhaanvi is going to give powerpact performance but she was disappointing again.Same old cliche story, bad acting and remake songs. Tbh this is not a good film at all, watch only when you have lot of free time and money to waste.
