Reluctantly enjoyed it a lot
willz18725 September 2021
Didn't want to like it but I couldn't help but enjoy this!. Never liked the aesthetic of the stringy hair like the original toy ponies had. Prefer 2D over 3D animation. Loved My Lil Pony; Friendship is Magic. Saw this as a burial for the Mane 6 characters. I had about as much interest in this as I did Beast Wars, compared to Transformers generation 1. Actually liked this movie more the the MLP FIM movie - which wasn't great. Never going to forget AJ, Rainbow, Pinkie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Twilight! I think they should've appeared through a portal at the end of the movie to say hello.

guess i'm a fan

Actually liked it. Wasn't really blown away but liked it's vibe. Some good jokes, and funny off references. Overall story was maybe a little simple and not totally polished, but I wouldn't call it bad. Also the show didn't shy away from showing some deeper topics, so I can certainly respect that. So overall a enjoyable experience and I'll probably be checking out the upcoming series.

7/10: pretty good.

Great start for a new generation!
MeadowStar95724 September 2021
Before the review I want to say, please don't compare it to G4. This a movie, not a series. I know alot of veterans out there are going to pander this film for the style and characters. I know G4 was amazing, but we gotta move on and try new things.

Now for the review.

TLDR: Its very well made, I give my support for this generation! Of course the story is not the greatest, the songs were alright I was moving to beat in all of them. Characters do there part and together make a great development throughout the film.

Story: It a predictable story and will get you thinking ahead of the film. Its very short on some scenes and will feel very rush. The ending is the shortest of all the scenes. Pacing is really a big issue.

Characters: When together it really shines and shows the potential! When alone, it all one note. For likeable, the Pegasus is who I found likeable! The others not so much, the sheriff was the bottom of the group.

Sound: Well done on audio! The soundtrack was good and the sfx were done right, no question when watching.

Overall: Give a watch! It doesn't hurt to try, G4 will always be here if you don't like it! Last thing, please spread love and kindness to people who like this film! Bring friendship not discord!

I may not be the age demographic for this film but I enjoyed it

Warning: Spoilers
My Little Pony: A New Generation is a 2021 CGI film featuring the voice talents of Vanessa Hudgens,James Marsden,Jane Krakowski,Sofia Carson and Elizabeth Perkins.

Sunny(Hudgens) is a earth Pony who is fascinated with unicorns. However a unicorn named Izzy(Kimko Glenn) comes to town and Sunny befriends her along with the sheriff pony Hitch(Marsden). Will the Queen of the little ponies (Krakowski) prevent unicorns from entering the other world?.

Overall I thought I was a cute movie with a familiar voice cast. Yes I maybe a childless 30 year old woman watching a film for 5 year old girls but I enjoyed it.

Now on Netflix.

Pony friendship
MB-reviewer18525 September 2021
I saw and enjoyed the My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic series and My little Pony The Movie that came off the series. So hearing a new My Little Pony movie got me intrigued.

I found My Little Pony: A New Generation just as enjoyable as My Little Pony The Movie, which I am glad to say.

I liked the characters, the songs were pretty nice and the new 3D animation was bright, colorful and pretty. I even liked the voice cast playing the Earth Ponies, Unicorns and the pegasus characters.

It was funny and and I thought it was fun watching just like My Little Pony The Movie, so I can say I recommend watching this to have a fun time.

I love this. I'm a 42 year old parent...
pfne24 September 2021
Yes. I love it.

The story line is interesting the humour is fun and funny, the songs are toe tappingly.good and don't overstay their welcome.

The characters are fantastic and actually believable... Considering they're talking ponies...

I love it.

I love that it paid homage to FIM and didn't ignore it.

If this is a sign of what's to come, bring it on, I'll welcome it.

Fun and cute but left lots of questions
tieman-184692 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For kids who won't notice the plot holes is it super cute and whimsical! For adults who are watching the bit will be SPOILERS!!!!

First off one of the songs is hella annoying. The "Angry Mob" song... Was not needed and honestly a waste of the movies time. The other songs are better then G4 but still disappointing. Now for the plot holes. How does the sun and moon raise if that was the responsibility of the Princesses? Also they don't know about cutie marks!! How did they even get them if they don't know what they are... Because Hitch doesn't know why animals are sooo attached to him. Where are the other creatures?? The dragons, yaks, griffins, changelings, and seaponies are gone. And why are they back at the beginning where the three type of ponies are separated by fear and anger?? Where are the rest of the magicl creatures featured in G4 like the manticorns, the Ursa majors and minors, and more. Over all disappointed in the lack of diversity in the show.

Good but Unnecessary
diamondknightt24 September 2021
This movie is a good kids movie. While most of the humor was directed towards kids, I did find myself laughing at a couple of them. The characters were fine and the plot was good, but expected. The biggest problem I had with the movie was the fact that it didn't have to be My Little Pony. The only thing that they shared was the power system (which was inconsistent with Friendship was Magic) and the fact the Mane Six existed. It just seems like no previous elements actually mattered. Overall it was a pretty good movie, but it definitely didn't need to be a My Little Pony one.

The Blues Brothers 2 of MLP:FIM
scribblenautsfanatic10 February 2022
This movie's existence renders everything that occurred in MLP: FIM completely moot. And for what? A bland, insipid movie full of bland, forgettable characters, with a bland, no-stakes-having story with the most bland pathetic, non-threatening villain i've ever seen.

The movie was AMAZING. It's very fun to watch with children, Or even with teens. I love it and I'm ready to move on.

[Guys, do not listen to the new hate comments, they were just log in to hate and underrate mlp : g5. Don't ever listen. If you wanna rate, then watch the movie yourself.

- i know the whole fandom will miss g4, like i grew up with, but you can't just log in to spread hate. As from my experience. The movie, the song was totally spectacular. Of course, it's below mlp g4, no matter what. But you can move on, but not forget your favourite show].

Decent Movie!
GlazedMercury8 October 2021
The songs were mostly good and I loved the environment for the movie! I am obviously not the target audience but I still enjoyed it quite a lot.

I didn't like the character of Sprout very much, I felt like he was a bit too obnoxious and maybe there was a better choice for the voice actor. I liked Zipp but the voice actor was not the greatest choice ever. Everyone else did great in their roles!

Definitely different than the show and G4 will always hold a special place in my heart. Overall, enjoyable movie and a great start to G5!

Lazyness kills potential
corvus-3327917 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My Little Pony: A New Generation is a 3d movie which had a lot of fans and interested people that looked forward to its arrival and expected (mostly) nothing more or less as what the title promised them - a new generation of the Mlp universe. And after nine seasons of a great series that managed it to make its way into the hearts and minds of children and adults, teaching them lessons of friendship and life in a colourful world with Ponys, Pegasi, Unicorns and other interesting creatures in a thoughtful way, the deep characters, great plot and courful and interesting world, it also maked sure to not only catch its audience and deliver them nice and helpful lessons, but also to create a feeling of nostalgic when thought about. Therefore many where interested to see a movie that would let them feel the same and would expand the Mlp universe with a new generation of ponys that have to deal with new problems on their adventure, which would lead them to the magic of friendship in the same thoughtful way as already joyfully seen in the series.

However, I for myself was almost shocked to see how the lazyness of some of the films creators managed it here to destroy the great potential the film had. I'm bot talking of the animation style, because that is a whole other topic and highly depending on the subject. I'm neither talking about the voice acting, which was btw well done or the message the film wants to deliver. No, I am talking about the films plot, characters, character development, leak of logic and the general lazyness that sadly often was shown through the movie.

And yes, I know that this is mostly a movie for children and the Mlp comunity, but that isn't an excuse in anyway for the movie just being lazy made. This can be seen in the films first minutes as the new characters, their world and the current conflict with which the ponys habe to deal with are introduced. The female main protagonist Sunny Starscout, an earth pony is shown that lives with her father in a lighthouse and teaches her and the other main protagonist Hitch Trailblazer as also the later main antagonist Sprout Cloverleaf the lessons of friendship that Twilight Sparkle and her friends discovered through their adventures and the former unity that once has been existed between the three main pony races. This all happens in an Equestria where these three races, the Earth Ponys, Pegasi and Unicorns live seperated in different areas of the country, after they once split apart. How did that happen you may ask? - Well although teasert throughout at least half of the movie and importend for the plot or at least very interesting to no, it never gets explained in the movie. Even tho there was a well known Queen of friendship with her friends that have united the whole country with all its different species it is never explained. I mean the main plot is to show the magic of friendship, that can unite and overcome borders, the three races life seperated from each other with bad beliefs from each other and the reason of this conflict isn't worth to mention? Come on! Plus it wouldn't have been difficult to do so. You easily just could give the audience one sight of the reason and/ or event that caused the current situation through some propaganda by the government, maybe in school etc. But no, the current image of the other races only gets called out as brainwashing by Sunny's father. But how does he knows this and has a general knowledge of Equestrias past then, when the origin of the current situation lies that far away in the past that generations of ponys have been told a false image of Pegasi and Unicorns you ask then? Well, he did some research... Seriously? That's all it needs to know the true past? Why is he then at least just seemingly the only pony that knows about this? I mean it isn't delivered to the audience that the access to that knowledge is that hard to get. And then again, how comes it, that even Sunny's seemingly well knowing father that even was in possession of one of the three magic friendship gems believed that it wasn't that necessairy to explain how it could happen, that the unity and friendship of the three races that once has been existed broke apart? I mean sure, that may be a thing to tell your ten year old daughter at her bed, but he didn't seem to have told her that later, because she didn't even seems to know that as a grown up, because she never mentioned it - even in argumentations with Hitch or her speech at the fashion show of Karen's secruity enterprise. That be that, but the plot, although first at least kinda promising as an unicorn, the second main protagonist Izzy shows up at Sunny's town and they both get connected to each other in their beliefs and goals, making their way to Pegasi city to gain go find a way to bring the Unicorn's lost magic and the unity back. However this gets handled rather lazy and unlogical as all that it needs is to put some magic crystals they saw on a train stations glas mosaic together just because it looks in their eyes as if they could fit and friendship to activate them.

That's right, after her father seemingly had told her the story of Twilight and her friends with their friendship gems that stood for certain Virtues each that where the attribute of one of them and which gave them their magic it now just are first two and later for some reason three gems - each for one of the three pony races. Just why? How did this three gems do have any connection of friendship? Neither their form, nor their at least seemingly affiliation to one of the races make any sense in this context. And again, how comes it, that her father didn't told her about it or about the true function of the lighthouse they lived in? What happened to him? He just disappered from one scene to another without any explaination. Maybe he got the same fate as Sunny's mother wich never played any role through the movie or is to be seen in any scene either. Why make something that new and unlogical there, when not needed? Just because you can call it new generation then? Nonsense! This wouldn't have been the point as the core plot and the new characters already would have ensured that. Especially when you are in fact that lazy that you don't use any deep characters by using cliches over cliches or in many cases just take the old main characters such as Twilight, Pinkie Pie or Rainbowdash as a rolemodell to a point, that they get that forgetable that for an example I had to google their names while writing this critic after have seen the movie on the very day. A reason for this is on one hand that the film doesn't seem to care about the protagonist's pasts, but manages to focus on a plot that just streches itself because it hasn't any big content. That leads to the second reason. There really isn't that much character development after all. The only persons that kinda undergo some changes through the movie are Hitch and Sprout. This character in itself is just another of the movie's problems as it looks as if he tries to fill the movie's space for a villain or threat and fails while doing so. In addiction to the plots leak of content comes that this leads to the plot being that predictable that they had to make the plottwist with the third gem at the end.

And even the movie's end leaks of logic, which to be fair had its origin at the approximately middle of the movie when it gets mentioned that the Pegasi's ability to fly doesn't just comes from them having wings but magic, so that all Pegasi can't fly. But when our friends have gathered all three magic gems and managed it to unify around thirty representants of the three races through pityness they reagained their magic. The Pegasi not only regain their ability of flying but also are suddently perfectly skilled in it. And the other Pegasi that weren't in near of the gems and didn't get the news of the big unity get their magic back as well because ... reasons... The same goes for the Unicorn's ability to use magic. Forget about flying lessons or magic schools with big librarys, they just can because MAGIC And it isn't as if the movie is bad in all points or was made to fail from the beginning. It could have been done better. With just a little more effort in character development Story telling etc. Like it comes out, that Sunny's father just used Twilight's story as a way to indirectly tell his daughter Equestrias past, and the reason for the current conflict as also introducing her to the solution to it when he already had known it.

All in all you could say, that My Little Pony: A New Generation had in its core a great potential that was ruined through lazyness and focusing on the false points.

Kids just deserve better.

Ish, this movie is so questionable.
ritokessah22 October 2022
I have a LOT of questions. First: the how magic is not part of ponies naturally?? Imprison in gems or whatever is bizarre same as you can imprison, well, possibility to create a spoon by tools in a tech-physical world from the mind of inhabitant there - you can (by lobotomy for example), but it wouldn't work on next generation without repeat. And if it works - eww, that's just creepy to think why. And if this world never was on magic standard does this mean it was all a lie? What happened to the princesses? Discord? Who in charge of rising sun and moon? Was that ever really necessary or also a lie?

Leaving creepypasta and conspiracy shishkebab, what happened to cutiemarks? Why just on one flank and so small? And it did not change after returning magic. Intrigue.

Why ponies became enemies again? Blamed each other in lost magic? Didn't seem so, it more they just separated by tribes after that happened without any rational reason and this is just sad, friendship my hay. I don' wanna know the fate of non-ponies then.

Can friendship still exist in a modern world?
nataliabatsko14 May 2022
Surprisingly, the my little pony franchise became super popular during the last decade thanks to the friendship is magic series. But all good things must come to an end, and since the show ended in 2019, a new generation came along 2 years later. And it began with a feature film, which I'm going to discuss today.

At first, the plot may seem generic, since it's too similar to Pixar's Onward and Disney's Raya and the last dragon by having 3 nations being divided in a modernized world and the main character trying to find a magical artifact to unite them together. But what makes the film stand out from others is probably the Pony theme. It's a follow up to the 2010 series, where Sunny Starscout still believes that Pegasi, Unicorns and Earth ponies can still be together. And when she meets one of the unicorns named Izzy Moonbow, she actually got excited to see her. And both go to a quest. The movie definitely has some good humour. Especially when the characters enter the unicorn village, where it has a set of cursed words like Magic and surprisingly mayonnaise. And the creatures perform a funny ritual where they say bing bong. Or the scene where Hitch has to agree with Pipp on her thoughts on unicorns. But it's not just the humour that makes the film worth it.

Like the previous generation, it tries it's best to add songs to entertain the viewer. All of them sound great. Probably the makeover song one was the best one, it was pretty catchy in my opinion. I'd also like to mention the villain song, that is similar to the "How bad can I be" from the Lorax, which sounds epic and menacing, where the antagonist tells the citizens that they should mob against the pegasi and unicorns. The last song I wanted to mention is glowing up performed by Sofia Carson and James Marsden. It may sound like a typical pop song with a rap number, which may disappoint some viewers, but for me, it was a good one.

The characters were likeable too. Starting with Sunny, she's the optimistic believer who has a goal of finding the crystals in order to restore peace. I liked her personality a lot, although the citizens found her annoying for her positive outlook. Izzy was the comic relief who's a very fun pony who likes playing games. She's a lot similar to Pinkie pie. She's honestly my favourite for her fun personality! Zipp and Pipp were the pegasi royality twins who are complete opposites with the former being a tomboy and the latter being the popstar diva. Both have a small secret that they hide from the public. I thought that both were pretty interesting for having interesting characteristics. There are also 2 male characters including Hitch who's the sheriff who takes care of the Maretime bay and Sprout, who is the bully that makes fun of ponies like Sunny. All of them were memorable and enjoyable, even though they were similar to the previous generation ponies. I'd also like to mention that the voice actors putted a lot of effort to voice these ponies. All of them sound like they are having lot's of fun.

Lastly, the animation looks so amazing, that it's pixar worthy. The updated cgi looks of the ponies definitely looks interesting by being both new and familiar. The backgrounds also look immersive with Maretime bay looking like a simple town compared to the modern city of pegasi. Each location looks unique from each other.

In my opinion, My little pony a new generation is a good movie for both newcomers and long time fans like myself. It introduces us to a brand new world that is also familiar. Definitely worth the watch to people who are curious about My little pony or those who enjoyed friendship is magic a lot. It's also a treat for animation fans too. It was a fun movie for me, and I recommend it.

Warning: Spoilers
I grew up with My Little Pony, but I was really hoping at the end it would show just some sort of sign of the Equestria friends coming back, unfortunately I believe since it's been so many "moons" I believe they are longer the main My Little Pony friends anymore.

An intriguing first episode...
sventempest26 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...because let's face it, that's what this. There are complaints that it isn't more of the same. There are complaints that some aspects of the story remain a mystery. But it's the first episode of a new series. Of course there needs to be mystery. It didn't end with this, it just begins.

What is the Earth Pony Magic implied by the rainbow hoof prints? What or who caused the divide in pony societies? Two questions to answer in an upcoming series.

But taken simply as what it is, episode one, it's beautifully animated and deals with tricky social issues in a way that doesn't necessarily treat children like idiots. It's characters are archetypal but strong. At its core, the message is that ignorance and fear leads to segregation. That friendship and social harmony develops from understanding.

There are going to be a lot of people downvoting this because the notion of friendship being a magic brought through understanding is "too political" and lambasting that this isn't MLP:FiM season one. But I think enough people are sensible enough to realise that at its heart, this new generation carries the same message.

Looking forward to seeing where this new series goes.

I loved it!!

Warning: Spoilers
Don't listen to the bad reviews, their just older people that can't accept change. Their stuck in the past and don't want to move forward. Yes gen 4 was your childhood but your childhood is over.

Anyways the movie just leaves you with questions and gets you excited to know what happened. Like where's flurry heart or Celestia and Luna. Or why they're magic is centred around those gems. Also how much time has passed and why they're divided again.

As an older kid i get that this made people mad that there wasn't much explanation but that's the whole point. If they explained everything and then made series, there probably won't be that excitement anymore. Also the movie is meant for the new generation of kids.

for someone who hated MLP for the first 13 years of their life, this was actually pretty good!
I hated My Little Pony for the first 13 years of my life, I would only watch it if I was pretending to like it as a joke. But then I saw this movie, and it was actually pretty good! The animation, messages, themes, textures, lighting, songs, it all seemed pleasing and much better than I expected. And as for voice acting, it starred James Marsden (from "Sonic the Hedgeheog" and "Enchanted"), Ken Jeong (from "Penguins of Madagascar" and "The Muppets") and Kimiko Glenn (from "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse" and "Centaurworld"). This movie got me liking MLP since then and if you're interested in any of MLP then check out this movie at least. 'cause you probably won't like the rest of the franchise if you don't like this movie.

Its OK at best, it just rings hollow. Not to mention it left with more questions than answers.
surrondeadious22 October 2021
So I was never one to like MLP growing up since it was a time that it would have been considered more if not entirely for girls. However A few years back I ended up watching the My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic with my younger siblings and ended up loving everything about it from the characters, the world, the challenges that were faced throughout the series, not to mention the morals and values that the series expressed and much more. To the point the series had become a favorite of mine. All of these things and more made the entirety of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic what it was, and what made it enjoyable.

MLP: A New Generation however lacked for a great deal of things, while the premise of the story could be seen as possible within the MLP universe. The movies gives no context whatsoever to the main issue the movie is centered around from start to finish. So then you're just left confused because all the elements needed to paint a clear picture are just absent with not second thought given. So it gives off the impression that this movie wanted to benefit from everything MLP: Friendship Is Magic built up from the series, movies and specials while missing all of the points that made it great. Honestly this whole movie just felt lazy, from the characters, the plot, essentially everything.

While the movie was OK at best, I cant say that I would recommend it as it just felt hollow and devoid of the love, passion, care and more that was put into MLP Prior.

Everypony should see this.
GiraffeDoor14 October 2021
Thoroughly enjoyable addition to the franchise with new characters and a new look.

Its narrative of ethnic tensions and prejudice is not only on brand, it provides an agreeable message that I dare say is still somewhat relevant in a way that's not as sanctimonious or pandering as things usually are lately.

The characters are delightful even if they are familiar types. I did notice that the protagonist undergoes very little character development and somewhat like a Miyazaki protagonist basically gets to enjoy and adventure of being proven right.

But it's still a vibrant and engaging story that doesn't really feel fresh enough to be a theatrical release but it enjoyable for any fan of the franchise even if they haven't seen the whole of the FiM era yet.

So I guess everything Twilight Sparkle and her friends worked for was for naught?
swiftnimblefoot28 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie today, and all throughout as we saw what a terrible disjointed segregated place Equestria became, I felt more and more like I did when watching Star Wars - The Force Awakens. Except here, likely centuries passed instead of 25 years, but it does seem that nothing our heroes did for several years, all the hardships they endured, the friendships they forged, mattered. Twilight just thwarted a plot by villains to drive the three races of ponies apart in the last season... and now she is gone and her teachings of friendship forgotten, and earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi live apart, in fear of each other.

...Except, even this setting makes no sense. The earth ponies are terrified of the magic of unicorns and the flying pegasi. But we learn quickly unicorns cannot use magic anymore, and pegasi cannot fly. And neither did the three species keep in contact - none of the characters in the movie have ever seen another pony type in their lives. So WHY would they be so afraid of some invisible boogeyman that it dominates their lives, so much they build capture devices against unicorns and pegasi?

The crystals are another dumb retcon -pegasi can fly normally because, y'know, they have WINGS...? But nope, in this movie, that is magical too. So our intrepid heroes have to unite three gems. If you guessed that there would be a third gem for the non-existing powers of earth ponies, and there would be a third act "we failed, I am useless" cliche moment, you guessed right.

The characters are shallow copies of the Friendship of Magic ones. Sunny is Twilight once again - studious, curious, and shunned for being awkward. Except while Twilight spent long seasons truly understanding both friendship and magic, earning her status as princess... Sunny just states the obvious ("The power was in our unity all along!") and immediately becomes an alicorn princess.

The others aren't great either. Izzy is basically Pinkie Pie as a unicorn, with boundless optimism and laughter, but not much else (none of the quirky randomness that made Pinkie truly funny). Zipp is just Rainbow Dash, the athletic, daring tomboy, with even a similar mane style. Hitch is just mainly a foil for the female characters, placed there so he can learn his lesson and accept Sunny for what she is, and Pip is like every annoying internet celebrity ever, complete with her own tiktok videos.

The world makes little sense, with pegasi royals pretending they can fly via wires (no, they do not oppress the others, it is never really explained why this was a good idea, but it ends up getting them imprisoned when things fail). Unicorns are all emo slackers with weird superstitions.

Our villain is probably the worst, as he is more of an afterthought - a childish loser deputy who rises to the top by fearmongering, at the end declaring himself basically the God-Emperor of Ponyville. If the allusions were not clear enough, he even says "Those who scream loudest must be right" and "A million voices can't be wrong!" - I half expected he would also say he would make Equestria great again... At the end he builds a giant pony-mech but the final confrontation consists of him ramming a lighthouse and our heroes running around to try to place the macguffins in their sockets. Rather boring.

Also, there are songs. A lot of them. None very memorable.

The CGI is serviceable, not anything special. The character faces look way too similar, and it is hard to tell females and males apart.

If this was its own universe, I would say it is a harmless child flick seen and quickly forgotten. But because it basically says nothing that happened in 7 seasons of MLP FiM matters... I rate it lower than "meh".

Kids love it some thing not necessary
nellybells-9165530 September 2021
Ok so I have 3 girls ages 5,6,9 all love the movie. Its cute the music is fun. For every one that obviously are obsessed with the passed and the old carecters all I have to say is "let it go". Obviously its a whole separate thing for god sakes theres obviously a gay pony in it. Which honestly I don't care what people are but I don't see why it is necessary to put in little kid movies. Its just one of many things netflix especially likes to push on the kids lately. For example why did netflix have to change the picture to Sunny and Izzy looking like they are having this intense moment and are about to full on kiss. Like I said I have friends of many different circles but don't see why this is pushed so hard on to the youth. But the movie is a cute funny enjoyable flick. And it is not connected to the past ones so let it go. The only way that you or your kids will even be bothered by that fact is if you the parent make an issue out of it. People need to not get so stressed over a kids movie.
