Great Interview
Inside the Actors Studio: Al Pacino (2006)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Al Pacino is the guest this time out as he covers his early, tragic days all the way up to his more current and personal projects. Pacino starts off talking about his dad leaving him at a very young age and him having to deal with his mother's death before she could see him get famous. He talks about struggling as a young actor and then we get into some of his Broadway roles. From here it's all about the movies as we get discussions on THE PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK, THE GODFATHER trilogy, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, SCARFACE, SEA OF LOVE, SCENT OF A WOMAN, GLENGARY GLEN ROSS, HEAT and LOOKING FOR RICHARD. Fans of Pacino will probably know that he doesn't always come off the best in interviews as his shyness sometimes comes out but that's not really the case here. It's someone sad listening to him speak about some of the early drama in his life but there are plenty of wonderful stories that follow. He talks about thinking he should have been fired from THE GODFATHER and talks about working with the terrific cast. He also talks about certain questions he had about the third film in the series and if they ended it the right way. There's also a funny story told about what happened after he won the Oscar and he also talks about why LOOKING FOR RICHARD was so personal to him. Overall this is a very pleasant interview that clocks in at around 100-minutes and for the most part great stories are told. As you'd expect, certain films like CRUISING are overlooked but I'm going to guess that the actor makes people promise not to bring that one up.
