King Edmund's line "it's an interesting story and it begins with the moon" mirrors Eugene's line at the beginning of the original film, "it's a very fun story...and it begins with the sun."
In the original film, Eugene says "I hoped it wouldn't come to this but you leave me no choice...here comes the smolder...this is kind of an off day for me, this doesn't usually happen." In this episode, Edmund says/does essentially the same thing but with an expression he calls "the glower."
After being attacked by the crows, Lance groans "Never more." A nod to Edger Alan Poe's poem "The Raven," in which a raven (the crow's larger cousin) repeats, "Never more."
