Edward Hopper's famous 1942 painting 'Nighthawks' (also the title of the 1960's TV-Show) is referenced on the left side of the screen when Stan visits the 'other side' for the first time. He literally runs into it.
The word written on the mattress 'chinches' translates to 'bedbugs'.
The show Stan discovers on his old TV, "Nighthawks Hideaway", is a reference to the 1959 show Playboy's Penthouse (1959), hosted by Playboy magazine's editor Hugh Hefner. This episode's title "Rabbit Ears" therefore has a double meaning: first, the "rabbit ears" aerial on his old TV; second, the "bunny ears" of Playboy's famous logo, which featured heavily in the original Playboy program.
