TV icon Norman Lear had not had a TV series on the air for two decades until a reimagening of his beloved One Day At a Time premiered on Netflix in January 2017. It was developed by Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce who served as showrunners and executive produced it with Lear. The new One Day At a Time earned critical acclaim and launched a prolific final act in Lear’s career, which has included the Emmy-winning Live In Front of a Studio Audience, the upcoming series Good Times and The Corps on Netflix, Clean Slate at Amazon Freevee as well as a slew of other projects in development.
Following Lear’s death Tuesday at the age of 101, Kellett and Royce wrote a moving tribute, reminiscing of the time they worked with the TV legend by focusing on one fateful run-through during Season 1 of One Day at a Time. It...

Global Digital Releasing, the film distribution company that launched in 2017 with the hit Welsh language drama “The Passing,” is changing lanes to focus primarily on documentaries and live television events, TheWrap can report exclusively.
“To be a boutique distributor in today’s overwhelmingly competitive content game has made it even more vital that we consistently evaluate the performance trends of our films. Undoubtedly, we’ve seen a steady uptick in both engagement and revenue streams of our documentaries, well above and beyond our narrative films,” Global Digital Releasing president Joe Dain said in a statement.
“We believe this change in direction will not only benefit documentary filmmakers by giving them a dedicated home in the indie space, but this niche will also help differentiate our label from the competition and allow us to excel in the sector.”

Exclusive: D.K. Uzoukwu, Telma Hopkins, Jay Wilkison and Norah Murphy have joined the cast of Amazon Freevee’s Clean Slate as series regulars. They join previously announced stars Laverne Cox and George Wallace.
Clean Slate follows old-school and outspoken car wash owner Harry Slate (Wallace), who is thrilled his estranged child is finally returning home to Alabama after 17 years away. However, he has a lot of soul-searching to do when the child he thought was a son returns as the determined, proud, trans woman Desiree (Cox).
Uzoukwu will play Louis, a closeted gay choir director at the local church who the older female congregants insist on trying to fix up. He’s a close childhood friend of Desiree, and the only person who gives her a genuinely heartfelt welcome home.
Hopkins will play Ella, Louis’ mother, a no-nonsense jack-of-all-trades who has known Harry for much longer than either of them would like to admit.

Norman Lear, Mimi Kennedy, George Takei, Marla Gibbs and George Wallace are encouraging Hollywood to take steps in creating more stories about the lives of older adults in a new #RethinkAging campaign.
In partnership with the University of Southern California Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center, the industry veterans created an amusing video announcing that they’re still very much in the game — and their stories matter.
“They said 91 is the new 60,” Gibbs said in the video. “I don’t know where they got that, honey. Ninety-one is the new 30.”
Gibbs most recently appeared in Grey’s Anatomy season 19 as the grandmother of one of the hospital’s new residents, but she’s best known for her portrayal of Florence on Lear’s 1970s sitcom The Jeffersons and her role as Mary Jenkins in the ’80s comedy 227.

Anushka Sharma has, over her nine years in Bollywood, proven herself with powerful roles reflecting both exceptional talent and maturity that have heightened our expectations from her as an actress. The chilling thriller “NH10,” the 2015 maiden feature from her production house Clean Slate Films — one of the few in Bollywood companies helmed by a female actor — more than lived up to the company’s mission to tell risky, non-clichéd stories. Setting all that aside, while Clean Slate’s second release, “Phillauri,” has a promising premise, it’s disappointing to see first-time director Anshai Lal’s primarily play-it-safe treatment and lethargic pacing make it an underwhelming watch.

Many people look back on their early 20s and cringe. But for Ashlee Simpson - who actually had those years documented on her reality show The Ashlee Simpson Show - it was all just a "part of growing up." "There's nothing really too cringeworthy. This was my life," the singer and former reality TV star, 31, told People at Swiffer and Mr. Clean's Clean Slate Workshop Tuesday in New York City. "Looking back, it's all cute. It was so fun," she added, smiling. While she hasn't released any new music since 2012, the mother of two says she "had a great time making" her early albums.

Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross were as cute as can be when they popped up at a Swiffer and Mr. Clean event in NYC on Tuesday night. The couple, who tied the knot nearly two years ago, was all smiles as they nuzzled up to one another and snuck in a quick kiss on the red carpet. Later that evening, the mother of two took to Instagram to share a photo from the cleaning workshop, writing, "My hubby @realevanross and I had fun learning some Clean Slate cleaning tips from the expert @mrsilverscott, because it can be hard to stay on top of it with two beautiful babies in the house." This is just the latest we've seen from the pair since their ski trip to Park City, Ut, back in March, though both Evan and Ashlee have been active on Instagram, constantly uploading sweet photos from their home life.

As I write this, I’m about to record a podcast that will include a section about Batman V. Superman. It’s been a long week of absorbing people’s opinions and trying to treat everyone’s opinion as valid, but weighed against how rudely they feel that opinion needs to be expressed.
That whole process seemed to have choked the entire internet this week. Not that there wasn’t cool superhero and superhero movie news (that DC Rebirth looks great!), but it all seemed lesser and muted behind the hum of an entire Batman fandom groaning under the weight of everything Dawn of Justice presented.
Take Gambit, for example (please, take Gambit!). Doug Limon (Edge of Tomorrow) is overseeing rewrites on Gambit before directing it and has decided to direct a thrilled called The Wall before even starting production on the superhero film. Although it probably had nothing to...

With the movie hitting this side of the pond in April, time is getting short for Avengers: Age of Ultron, and we've seen relatively little from the highly anticipated sequel, save the hugely impressive teaser trailer. Well, Hot Toys is here to rectify that somewhat, giving us an extremely detailed look at their latest figure, which sees Tony Stark sporting the Mark Xliii he will be using to take the fight to Ultron. It's pretty similar to the Mark Xlii from Iron Man 3, except for an inverted paint job, and a healthy injection of silver, harking back to the suit case armour from Iron Man 2. We all knew that the Clean Slate protocol wasn't the end of Tony suiting up, but it'll be interesting to see how Avengers: Age of Ultron brings in this bad ass new armour. Released: April 24th Ireland & UK / May 1st USA Synopsis: Marvel Studios...

After the end battle of Iron Man 3, Stark orders J.A.R.V.I.S. to destroy the remaining Iron Man suits under the Clean Slate protocol, a sign of his intention to devote more time to Pepper. This left some questions, mainly, what will Tony wear in Avengers: Age of Ultron? According to this set photo, looks like Tony is keeping his ‘protection’ above the waist (ok, bad joke). Surely we’ll see the new Iron Man suit(s) in action, cgi and all, when the first trailer hits (hopefully sooner). Will it be called the Mark Xliii (43)? Stay tuned... The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.

You know we're usually not in favor of costume hair or makeup, since it tends to end up looking like Bad Halloween. But, leave it to Katy Perry to make the "Princess Leia Slave to Jabba the Hutt" hair look red carpet amazing at the Nrj Music Awards in Cannes on Saturday. While the pop starlet's hair may be it a bit much for us civilians to pull off (we dare you to wear this braid to your office holiday party), her makeup is totally doable and beautiful for any night out on the town. Get the Look: After moisturizing your skin, make sure you apply a primer like Tarte Clean Slate Poreless 12-hr Perfecting Primer to fill in pores, camouflage imperfections and prevent your makeup from absorbing into...

In last summer's blockbuster film, The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway plays Selina Kyle, who attempts to get her hands on a software program that will erase her criminal history from every computer database in the world. At one moment of the film, this character (who would later become Catwoman) tells Batman, "Wayne says you can get me the clean slate.” In the film, the product is referred to as "clean slate" several times, and rather fascinatingly, Warner Bros. got sued over this by a company that actually markets and sells a computer security program called "Clean Slate."

Our top moments of the week:
15. Best Clean Slate: New year, new look for Walden (Ashton Kutcher). Though he's initially upset that Zoey wants him to shave and look presentable for a corporate shindig on Two and a Half Men, Walden finally gives in and does away with his hirsute hobo look. Later, however, Zoey comes over to apologize for forcing him to change and is stunned to see her clean-shaven and much younger-looking beau. You know Ashton couldn't have hidden the pretty for much longer.

Pedro Almodóvar made him a star. But then Hollywood beckoned and actor abandoned mentor. Twenty years on, they're back together – and boy does it feel good...
Three decades ago, an impoverished young actor named Antonio Banderas was sitting with friends outside Madrid's National theatre when a curious figure happened by. The new arrival sported a backcombed goth bouffant and brandished a bright red briefcase that could only contain documents of national importance. He ordered a drink, cracked some jokes then turned abruptly towards Banderas. "You have a very romantic face," he said. "You should do movies. Bye-bye!" And with that he was off, swinging his briefcase through the crowds on the Calle del Principe.
Nonplussed, Banderas turned to his friends. "Oh, that's Pedro Almodóvar," they told him. "He made a movie once. But he won't make any more."
Banderas and Almodóvar went on to make five films together. These were wild,...

Filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier.
Bertrand Tavernier: Taking Rabbits Out Of Hats
By Alex Simon
Bertrand Tavernier was bitten by the cinema bug at a tender age, falling in love with a diverse slate of films and filmmakers like Jean Renoir, Fritz Lang and Buster Keaton. Born in Lyon in 1941, Tavernier abandoned his law studies to write for the now-legendary French cinema magazine Cahiers du Cinema, which also launched auteurs like Francois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard. Making his directing debut with The Clockmaker of Saint-Paul in 1974, Tavernier’s career has been a prolific one, with 35 films to his credit, and dozens of awards, including the Best Director prize at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival for A Sunday in the Country.
Tavernier’s latest film is the sweeping epic The Princess of Montpensier, an adaptation of a 1662 novel which was published anonymously, but later credited to French noblewoman Madame de La Fayette. Set...

Hey y'all! Blame my cat for the extra couple of hours it took to get this recap up: she's old and so we let her outside in an enclosed area so she won't get run over or get beat up by other cats in the area, only now it's spring time so her boyfriend cat from the other side of the fence got frisky and jumped up and got stuck on the roof! So I had to climb around trying to get him down.

Hey, Winchesters -- the number one rule of scary movie survival is to never be caught alone. So when you're stuck inside the endless scary movie of your life and you're hunting the Mother of All evil and your brother needs to take a time-out outside, maybe you should stick by him?
In Friday's "Supernatural," "...And Then There Were None," we meet a new monster -- one we don't even have a name for yet. "I'm new around here," the creepy worm-thing says, while it's stuck in Bobby's (Jim Beaver) brain. "Eve cooked me up herself."
Eve, by the way, is the name the Mother of All is going by from here on out. Her newest creation is a slug that creeps into peoples' brains and possesses their bodies, turning them into murderous villains.
It was an all-hands on deck hunt. Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles), and Bobby were...

Last night’s Grey's Anatomy, "Start Me Up," was terrific, creating a bunch of new loose ends and concluding with one of the all-time cliffhangers. Seeing how the different relationships develop the rest of the season should be interesting to say the least.
Callie is still so angry with Arizona, but Kyle’s speech about his undying love for Brady (Callie’s patient) seemed to hit home with her. It was great to see “Ricky” from My-So Called Life playing Kyle in such a poignant, albeit minor, role.
When Brady forgives Kyle for getting him hurt, Callie grows quiet and seems to wish she could do the same with Arizona, who spends the entire episode trying to make up with both Callie and Sloan - and clearly looking for an ally in Mark.
Little does she know ...
Arizona might want to look for a new sublet option.
At the end,...

One of the exciting things about attending films festivals is the bumpers that play before each screening. Not familiar with what a bumper is? It’s normally an artistic video introducing the festival done by some really creative people. After the jump, I’ve embedded the four bumpers that played at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The four videos are titled “Clean Slate,” “Either Or,” “Growl,” and “Pitch.” All of these have been under the direction of Buck, with original music by John Forte. Check ‘em out after the jump!

Kate Gosselin, possibly embracing he spirit of New Years reinvention, has ditched her signature hairdo and popped up on the cover of this week's People, proclaiming that things are going to be 'different' in 2010. She tells the mag: “It’s good to have hair again. I never thought I’d have short hair for as long as I did. I feel like this is a fresh start, a fresh me, a fresh life… I’ve got it. I am now Kate Clean Slate.” While we applaud her self-improvement efforts, however misguided, we have to wonder: will the loss of her signature backwards-mullet nightmare hair...
