An Indian "Man from the Earth"
ashiahtibbu8 February 2020
Its a great show to watch the concept was really good .It reminded me of the movie "Man from the Earth" and a TED video on what if we have superpower of immortality.I always wanted a Indian show/movie to explore this concept as we can connect this to so many things in mythology.

They could have made the show a little bit smaller as sometimes it feel like story is unnecessary extended.Acting was really good.Kudos to the team

You cant guess what happens next

This is one of the serieses I watched overnight without break. A psychological Dark Comedy Thriller. The genre itself is unique. I haven't seen something like this before and that is a major reason why I liked it.

This is not for everyone. Typical bollywood fans kindly refrain from down-rating this show.

For all the dark comedy lovers - It's a gem.

Brilliant Idea, Amateur Execution.
suprimchudal12 March 2020
Writers came up with a brilliant idea but messed up a big time. First few episodes are great but as the show goes on it loses its charm and main protagonist just exists there with no use in the story. Gulshan Devaiah is great but somewhat wasted and a lot of unnecessary killings in the name of dark comedy adds to nothing in the show.

Dark comedy at it's best.
arnab-537459 February 2020
If you are looking something out of the ordinary and you are fan of dark comedies then this is it. Brilliant performances specially from Gulshan followed by Heeba Shah. Great back ground score which is tailor crafted to the screenplay. Out and out it's a great show to binge watch and keeps you engaged till the end. Only drawback is that the screenplay could have been better.

Good but not great
drsaketk10 February 2020
It's a classic example of the story that promises so much early on only to go downhill towards the end. Afsos starts on a fantastic note with its innovative idea and brilliant acting of protagonist and antagonist but the latter episodes lack depth as director tries to do plenty of things in total duration of just around 3 hours. Story moves at a rapid pace initially and leaves much less scope for expansion later on leading to nearly one entire episode getting wasted on one unnecessary action sequence. Climax could have been better as well. All in all it can be watched for it's novel idea and performances but don't pin all your hopes on it.

Shriram Raghvan Should be Jealous!😂
djdevansh959 February 2020
Amazon did it again with the quality of content! They are constantly producing great shows constantly! Afsos is best described as a psychological cum dark comedy cum thriller! Anubhuti Kashyap ( who directed ) has a tight grip on screenplay, direction, editing, music! Veterans of Thrillers like Shriram Raghvan and in writing Zoya and Reema should have to be jealous 😅. The writing is bang on, layering the characters, and giving a very fresh perspective is the strength of the show! The dialogues are the culmination of realism and dramatic! The comedy comes with irony and it is well and organically placed! And I want to specially mention the opening credits, it has great sound and visuals and I never skipped it!

I DON'T WANT THIS SHOW TO BE CALLED UNDERRATED , SO TALK ABOUT IT , PRAISE IT OR EVEN CRITICIZE IT! BUT ENGAGE!

Good cast but in the end a theater act
ankit_cs147 February 2020
It's a good story with a good cast even cinematography is good but only afsos is that it all looked like a theater act most of the time mostly because of the dialog delivery or showing the reactions. Be it upadhyay ..maria or shloka. Nevertheless it's watchable.

Dark comedy and twisted plots
damaleprashant10 February 2020
It is fun series if you have time not that it worth your time.

Lead actor done pretty much good job, after watching him in Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and this series, I think he is underrated in industry. Remaining Cast member do their best with little screen time or not much story to their character to develop.

It has nice dark comedy and Some illogical plots keeps story moving but also entertaining if you don't put lot of brain.

I don't get the moral if it is about loneliness, dissatisfaction, crowdy cities but it's entertaining.

AS WE GO FORWARD IT WILL BECAME A HEADACHE
rushikeshvijaypatil15 March 2020
When I saw the name of Director I think this will blast, but as it is not according to my wish. The basic story is so powerful and also the cast is best but the writing and screenplay is crap. The cinematography is also not good. The twist which are on the paper will not surprise you on screen. Overall watch it for Gulshan and Patil.......

It's good but not great
dhruvvarma8 February 2020
Watch this is you have time because you are going to binge watch it anyway because of us length Watch it if you have not seen The man from the Earth because the basic concept will end up being the same behind both Watch it if you want to appreciate some good acting because this is that one thing which is actually really great

The sorry could have been more twisted, the world of on line shows is getting bigger and better and this show is a bit late to come into life at you won't be blown away by it but you will like it.

Gripping, entertaining but...
sehgalvarun7 February 2020
Nice storyline, gripping, entertaining but too annoyed looking at random people dying anywhere/everywhere without any reason. What a sadist way of filming the scene when inspector is asking for counts on how many of their policemen are left. If it was supposed to be funny, then... it wasn't. It's worth watching once. Nice twist in the end.

Good Attempt At Black Comedy, Could Have Been Better. {criti-cally reviews}
criti-cally31 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Afsos is a well executed Indian Black comedy TV show. Something that one wouldn't expect. Written by some of the well known comedians, Anirban Dasgupta, Sourav Ghosh and Dibya Chatterjee. They have managed to come up with some really hilarious moments during the first season, moments where you laugh but later think back and think, should I have laughed that? It was so evil. And that my friends is a well executed dark comedy right there.

The director of the series, Anubhuti Kashyap (I thought she might be related to Anurag Kashyap, and turns out she is his sister) has done a good job handling the music, intro, direction and acting. Kudos on the background score of the show and the intro title. The graphics were every professional and catchy and you don't want to skip it.

But that's where I feel the show's creators focused more on the intro and the music, but lost their tight grip on the story and the screenplay. The story had everything going on, but nothing making sense at one point. It was all over the place and the writers didn't have a main theme. Was it suicide? Was it urban male privilege? Was it big city loneliness? Or was it about Karma and destiny? One can't really tell. The story was illogical, and I am ok with it when watching Indian shows, because its there a lot of the times, but this had such strong moments of losing logic and with the scattered story and the loose character development, that there were moments where you want to leave the show mid-way also.

Talking of character development, the characters were looser than an old pair of pajamas. What was the reason for Upadhya to drive her to kill was never understood clearly. Upadhya was a major character and its like her character background for the show was just 1 line. A serial killer who just has to kill. I feel there were so many characters, all scattered all over the place. What was the purpose of that therapist? Why was shloka trying to avoid Nakul towards the end of the episode? Why did she always lie? There are so many questions that still remain, which it feels like the show never aimed to answer and leave it to the users imagination.

The narrative of the show had its pick up moments but overall it was a little slow and lacking the luster it deserved. Being a thriller about suicide, serial killer, and immortality potion, they could have done a wonderful job. But they just did an ok job and le the show air.

The actors were good in acting but due to the poor narrative and character development, their talents goes lost and the loose narrative makes it feel like they are doing theatre and not taking this show seriously.

Overall, with such a bold topic of suicides in hand, a good storyline based on the Bengali novel, "Golper Goru Chaande", good directors, writers and actors, the show could have gone to become India's Fargo (as the show shows the word a couple of times initially) or even more. But it failed to even come close and leave its at home audience who doesn't know of Fargo also unsatisfied. I wish they had brought it closer to Andhadhun even a little bit, but they failed to do that too. Now, while writing this, I understand why their named the show Afsos. Because after watching the show you say, it could be such a better show, such as afsos!

It was a good attempt, and I hope this show encourages others to try at some black comedy, but as far as Afsos goes, watch it for the first attempt, its story line than connects with history and watch it for some of its dark but good moments. Mainly, watch it to encourage more of such shows to come up and to encourage the makers to experiment more. It's not a treat, but its worth a watch.

Ticks most of the boxes!
madhukar3019 July 2020
Afsos on Amazon Prime is wonderful watch for people who don't mind black comedy. The web series deals with black comedy of such humongous proportions, that one will either love or hate it. If people are in good mood before watching, I am sure afsos will keep them entertained throughout the 8 episodes.

Gulshan Devaiah as Nakul a depressed young man on a suicidal streak steals the show with a brilliant performance. The rest of the support cast do their job decently well enough. The character development & story is very good to keep us entertained throughout. Karima Upadhyay played by Heeba Shah as a female hit man was a well written character.

Cinematography in 4K was simply outstanding with lots of close ups shot very well. Editing could have been a little better considering the plot. Shooting locations in Uttarakhand was simply superb. Direction, Music and production design was definitely of acceptable standards.

Had a more popular person had played the lead instead of Gulshan devaiah, I am sure the web series would have been 10 times more popular than it is now. Overall Afsos ticks most of the boxes and would have had a wider reach and ticked more boxes only if more budget was allocated to casting and certain tweaks to the storyline to suit the younger generation. A very good web series to watch with friends.

If you have some extra free time you can watch this mini series. Each episode is half hour long. Dark comedy and unique story.

Series becomes little sluggish in middle but over all watchable.

Mediocre and fails to sustain the interest
indianature20 February 2020
I started watching Afsos on Prime Video. Episode 1 was slowish but at least it held the interest .. of sorts. From Episode 2 onwards the production became mediocre, melodramatic especially the scenes with Upadhya the psychotic contract killer. Not to mention the exaggerated convoluted plot.

I still felt maybe it will improve and diligently watched uptil Episode 6 when I decided I just had to give up. This series is definitely not my cup of tea. Undoubtedly though, there will be enough of an audience for this type of show.
