definitely not 'miss-able', but a solid slice of ER pie
wiggipop6 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
ER is not what it used to be in the days of George and the gang but the quality has always been there and I've stuck with ER through thick and thin (despite poor treatment by Australian TV programmers meaning we're only seeing this episode now.) This is still a very good episode, and to say that the reveal and eventual exit of Ray was anything less than shocking is simply untrue, there is something so affecting about amputation, that hits home sometimes more than death can. The tension having been built up sufficiently since Luka and Abby's wedding, Neela finally finding Ray was a huge moment for both characters and perfect for the finale. A very sad exit for a beloved character and a reminder that not everyone gets a happy ending; but wouldn't it be boring if that happened all the time? The protest rally was a nice touch for Neela, and to end with her trampled and her fate hanging was a typical finale ingredient (although, the episode was shown back-to-back with the 14th season premiere in Australia so the effect was less so). This is not 'miss-able', and while not at its very best, this is ER as dramatic, affecting and heart-breaking.

There is a new chief changing the ER. Neela finds Ray who was hit by a truck and sees that he has no legs. Tony loses custody of Sara.

I actually liked this episode. I felt that the staff's struggle with adjusting to the new chief is an interesting way to end this season. Everyone, especially Pratt, is feeling the tension and stress that Stanley Tucci creates in the already stressed setting.

This season, to me was Ray's time to hypothetically get Neela. It was his time. But after Michael's death, Tony butted into the picture and totally ruined that. So I've been hoping that Ray would get his chance with Neela again, but I was hoping also that he would have his entire body. I was so upset when I saw that he had lost his legs. I almost didn't believe my eyes. But it was true and its still amazing that Ray is actually leaving Chicago.

Overall, I felt that the episode was emotional, then not, then emotional again, and then not again. This wasn't your typical season finale, this could have been any old episode. There wasn't anything that screamed "SEASON FINALE!!" anywhere in it.

The Honeymoon Is Over (#13.23)

Warning: Spoilers
OK, so the call Luka got was not as mind blowing as I thought ti would be, not even sure why it was necessary.

I was actually very surprised that Ray was alive at all, so the shock of him not having legs was actually something way better than what I expected. It was a good scene though. I also liked what that woman (I believe Ray's sister) said to Neela. Was well deserved.

I really like Dr. Moretti. He has a great character, reminds me a little of Romano. Although he is not as bad, at least not for now, one can hope it will change next season.

And yes, no cliffhangers this time....I am sure Tony will get his daughter back. I really felt for them. And while I enjoyed watching Neela being trampled on I am sure there will be nothing but a few scratches...

Excellent Scenes w/ Ray and Neela

Warning: Spoilers
I thought the scene in the white hospital w/ Neela seeing Ray w/o legs was filmed impeccably.

It was one of the most 'real' scenes on TV ever.

I was completely drawn into Neela's viewpoint along w/ all the Immediate Shock when they picked him up to take him to the bed and realize what really happened.

Then the raw emotion (hence the honeymoon is over)and how of course their were no more games. Just laying it out.

Nice job ER.

I thought it was a good finale

A boring episode that was completely miss-able!

Warning: Spoilers
I agree with the previous comment, the episode was nowhere near the quality that I had come to expect from ER on the season finales, I somehow felt cheated by Ray leaving so undramatically and the revelation of his accident in the first place. As for the new chief of staff hello sarcastic comments, belittling the other doctors, a sense of superiority that surpasses even Romano's...how much more like House M.D can the guy be?! Frankly I miss the days of Dr Greene where the story lines included stages falling at the Ozzfest or carpet layer/s being stuck together with their own adhesive glue! I'm just glad I have found a descent substitute with House because ER just doesn't cut it anymore.

A letdown
centava9918 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed seeing the always-great Stanley Tucci as the ass-kicking new chief, but the allofasudden drama of Gates' wannabe daughter being snatched away by her grandparents, and Ray's quiet departure, it didn't have "Season Finale" written on it. This could have been an episode in the middle of March for all the cliff-hangerishness it had on it. Neela getting caught in an uprising at a war rally? Been there, done that. You know she won't have been shot, just lightly trampled, and big deal.

The only excitement the entire episode had was when Katie told Neela off before leaving with Ray. I think my heart rate actually climbed above resting for just a second there.

ER, I expected better than this. Maybe it is time to hang up the scrubs...

Abby admitted she is "hideously ugly..."

Warning: Spoilers
Abby admitted she is "hideously ugly by Croatian standards." She is insecure and miserable, and wants everyone else to be miserable too.
