This episode does not feature any of the three main characters, played by Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet and Bradley Whitford. This due to all three actors agreeing to a cut in their episodes to save the show some money, and it was deemed easiest to write them all out at the same time. Interestingly, both Perry's and Whitford's characters are referenced, while Peet's isn't.
Multiple references to guest star Allison Janney's work on The West Wing. "Studio 60" regulars Bradley Whitford and Timothy Busfield also had regular roles on the series, and Matthew Perry guest starred in several episodes. Studio 60 also features a lawyer from the fictional law firm "Gage Whitney Pace", the same law firm The West Wing's Sam Seaborn worked for. This "Studio 60" episode never makes note of this.
When Jack tells Allison Janney she was great on Chicago Hope (1994), she responds, "That was Christine Lahti". Christine Lahti played Martha O'Dell, the Vanity Fair journalist, in 3 episodes earlier in the season.
This episode is about 35 minutes long, instead of the usual 45 minutes.
