This remake of a lost episode gives more focus on Frazer, Jones and Godfrey who were less prominent in the first episode.
Captain Mainwaring promotes Frazer to lance corporal. The same rank as Jones and from the two, eventually Mainwaring will promote one to corporal.
Sergeant Wilson has doubts regarding Frazer's suitability and of course it means losing out on some extra meat from Jones.
Pretty soon Frazer is handing out charge sheets like confetti causing problems from Mainwaring. Pike is one of those charged and he needs him in the bank. Mainwaring needs to get Jones, Pike and Godfrey off the hook.
A terrifically funny episode and I laughed out loud several times. Again credit to the writing. It was good to see Frazer with his fish hook at the end.
It gave an opportunity to actors like Timothy West to shine. He does seem a natural fit as Godfrey, just look at the way he hides away as the platoon marches on the double. To think he only got the part because first choice Bernard Cribbins dropped out.
David Hayman shows a lightness of touch as Frazer. He is an actor more noted for serious drama and you can see he has worked hard to get John Laurie's tone of voice and mannerisms.
Kevin Eldon seems to have slipped easily as Jones and I noted that the studio audience cheered when he said "They don't like it up em."
One other to thing to note, the Verger appears in this episode and the actor they chose was a spitting image of Edward Sinclair.
