This documentary looking at the titans of the early Halloween Industry is a perfect example of post production being crucial in making a film. With today's technology anyone with an iPhone can become a film-maker but that doesn't mean they should. Loaded with interesting interviews but done at a snails pace with occasional diversions like the controversy of the creation of Spider-Man the entire production is completely sunk by a soundtrack consisting of the same piano melody gratingly played over and over again.
I knew I was in trouble when this piece of music was the opening theme-- completely inappropriate for anything remotely Halloween-ish this bit of music will play sixty plus more times in an attempt to evoke a feeling of melancholy nostalgia but instead sounding like something that should be played over footage of a weeping clown at a circus fire.
I give it four stars for the subject and for the insights provided by most of the people being interviewed but an editor and a post production team could have done wonders for this footage.
As delivered it's tough to sit through.
