My sister used to claim she didn't watch television; that was largely true except for one exception. The Bill. The Bil was marked on the calendar, meals planned around it. The family knew not to ring up; if away, the seldom used video recorder would spin. I heard, on the grapevine, The Bill is no more. No more the punctuated life; no more the scent of Streatley Mill in Gabriel's subtle direction. I can't believe it's gone.
Looking back, my novel gives the era a timeless glance and as a brand, a logo or a badge of honour 'The Bill' will do as my time's mark.
