Love Again
CinemaSerf15 May 2023
Now I don't know about you, but if I started to get text messages from an unknown number that were emotionally revealing in nature, I think that I would politely inform the sender that they'd got a wrong number! Not so here, when the rather hapless "Rob" (Sam Heughan) starts to get messages that certainly tweak his interest, and that of his colleagues "Lisa" (Lydia West) and "Billy" (Russell Tovey). He is able to glean enough from her texts to eventually engineer a meeting (at the opera) and is soon introduced to "Mira" (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) who is still reeling from the death of her previous boyfriend in an auto accident - hence why she still thinks she is talking to him when sending messages to his old, now reallocated, phone number! Meantime, "Rob" has been tasked with getting an in-depth interview with the soon-to-tour Celine Dion and after a rather shaky start at a press conference, she decides to help our dippy hero to sort out his rather curiously developing relationship. To be fair to Heughan, he's not your archetypal pretty boy in this film, but that's only of slight benefit as the plot lurches from ridiculous to absurd before concluding in the only way it could (just ninety minutes later than it needed to be). The soundtrack does offer us a chance to recall just how powerful Miss Dion's voice is, but her acting ought to be something she consigns to the back of her sock drawer pretty sharpish - a recommendation that could be made for pretty much the entire cast (and the pretty lame writing, too). The only redeeming scene, I felt anyway, featured an health-obsessed Nick Jonas as her date who, upon realising that he wasn't going to get laid, starts to look for an alternative partner with whom to burn off the carbs from the drinks - while they are still in the cab! Nothing at all to write home about here, it passes the time amiably and forgettably enough but definitely does not need the cinema experience.

I didn't expect to like this film and was pleasantly surprised.
cgvsluis25 May 2023
I guess this is a remake of the 2016 German film SMS für Dich and based on a few things I knew about it before watching, I didn't expect to enjoy it...but I found the film oddly charming and not being a big fan of Celine Dion, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed her contributions. I particularly liked the story of how her and Rene's romantic relationship began (I hope that is true, because it makes for a great story).

The film is about Mira Ray, a children's book illustrator who's boyfriend John is killed by a drunk driver. It's two years later and she is still struggling to get her life back or back to life. In a moment of despair she texts John's old cell phone number. The phone number has been reassigned as a work phone for a music critic named Rob Burns. He is also dealing with heartache and Mira's heartfelt words speak to him and inspire him to go to the opera Orpheus and Eurydice, where they finally meet.

This was different than the typical two sided texting with a stranger as the texting was one sided and a little more voyeuristic.

Going in I really expected to dislike the film, I was a little turned off by the trailer with real-life couple Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas on what appears to be the most awkward first date (I can only hope that in real life they have far more chemistry) and again I have never been a Celine Dion fan. I do however love Sam Heughan and as awkward as it was to see him singing Celine songs, I really enjoyed seeing him in a contemporary romantic comedy.

I think romantic comedy fans will enjoy this film, especially those who have been touched by heartache or grief. I thought the overall story was endearing and I actually really enjoyed Celine Dion's role beyond the shameless self promotion, she had more depth than I expected...and I think shared a genuine part of herself. To that, I highly recommend this film for Celine Dion fans. I think they will be over the moon.

It just didn't work
anamariachisilita29 May 2023
The best part about this movie is Celine Dion's songs and the presence of Celine herself. Knowing she loved her husband and misses him warms my heart. But her songs deserved a better movie.

The idea is good, but it could have been executed way better. The actors are good as well, personally i was curious to see Pryanka Chopra in a rom-com as the lead. She was ok. The lack of chemistry between the main leads thought makes it extremely hard to attach to the characters, which makes it even more difficult to connect with the whole story.

I would have loved to love it. I guess I will have to rewatch some of the classics.

Love Again... By Celine Dion
cahidi2 June 2023
This rom-com is made especially for Celine Dion fans. Why? Cause she played an integral part to its plot. Not to mention so many of her songs were used in it. As someone who enjoys Celine's songs, I also enjoy this movie. Don't be discouraged by raters who insensitively said that the main character took too much time mourning her deceased boyfriend. Those kind of people are dead on the inside, that's why they couldn't empathize with people who are grieving. They don't understand the kind of effort it takes to come out of that dark place. Anyway, for those who still can feel love, do give this movie a try. You won't regret it. Especially if you're a Celine Dion's die hard fan.

Almost too sappy for the Hallmark Channel
michroberto3 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First off.. the accents were all over the place! I don't understand why this had to take place in NYC featuring mostly Americans. It was clearly filmed in London and had a majority British cast. I thought it was very distracting. And also why do romcoms main characters always work in publishing! Magazines in particular are a dying industry, it feels so 1997.

The actual story is cute but the execution felt rushed to me. We didn't have enough time with John and Mira as a couple to get attached. "falling in love" based on some texts felt silly. The whole courtship felt like it needed more time and less shmaltz. I also felt like the whole Celine Dion as magic all knowing Cupid was kinda ridiculous.

"Celine was a little random"
watchitwombat14 May 2023
When I saw the trailer for this film, I knew I had to see it - especially if it meant a shirtless Sam Heughan on the big screen. Now, it's worth mentioning that while rom-coms are my favourite film genre, that also means I am hyper critical of them. Love Again contains some beautiful romantic tropes, complete with the cameo and music of Celine Dion who you might call the queen of love songs. However, i'm not entirely convinced the casting was on point with our leading couple. The writers spent a lot of time on Mira's past relationship, which made you lose focus on Rob, and therefore the chemistry felt lacklustre between them. Normally I'd be frothing for the first kiss, but it came and went without much excitement. The subsequent casting was fine, Celine was a little random but a fun addition to the film - as was Nick Jonas. The soundtrack must have worked because I played it on the way home from the cinema. In summary, a cute story to watch, whether in cinema or at home in your PJ's, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

Love again and again...
bonnmack3 September 2023
Well, it wasn't as awful as I had imagined it would be. Foremost, poor Sam Heughan just can't catch a a good script, a good opportunity...a good director? I dunno. Maybe this Scottish hunk will always be Jamie from Outlander. He's very good in outlander, strong and confident in his performances, but in other works he continually fails to engage the role. Or maybe he's just not enough box office material to get offered an opportunity to show his acting chops beyond the kilted hero. He's not connecting on screen, despite his chiseled good looks. It's a disappointment for one who's watched his career over the years.

The film? Oh, let's not get all worked up that's it not the greatest rom-com of all times. It's formulaic, banal and poorly written and we all know it was a platform for Celine. But there were a few moments of great delivery by all involved - a few laughs. The film isn't awful. Good enough for 5, maybe 6 stars. I'll give it 6 because of Heughan. One of these days, Sam, you'll get to sink your teeth into a role - and then we'll know if you're the It Guy. You're so freaking likable, I'll continue to place my bets on you.

Seriously? All those 10/10s? What are they smoking?

Warning: Spoilers
I cannot believe how many 10/10 ratings there are for this dire, badly plotted/written/directed piece of melodramatic nonsense. The premise is fine, but from very early on the whole idea is mishandled in a really labored fashion. Her grief seems endless, his seems forced and pointless. The texting idea could have been a great touch, but is allowed to drag on and on and on until it becomes like an albatross around the possible chemistry between the leads. And as for that chemistry? Not much doing, I'm afraid. She's okay overall, but he's poor. It probably says everything you need to know when Celine Dion seems more convincing than virtually everyone else! Avoid!

Cute and romantic in the best way
mikefreebelieve28 May 2023
I missed old school romantic movies who doesnt need to become vulgar or make its protagonist humiliated through the whole movie.

Love again is so sweet of a film.

The two leading actors are loveable with good chemistry. The rhythm of the film is great. It goes by the book but who cares? There's magic that will make you feel warm and cozy. Oh, and the music from Dion is pretty cool too.

Watch it alone, with your partner or with your date and you'll definitely have a great time. Cinema needs more movies like this one. It doesnt have to get too complicated. Just deliver a simple and beautiful story with likeable characters.

unusual rom-com
SnoopyStyle28 September 2023
Mira Ray (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) is heart-broken after witnessing the death of the love of her life. It's two years later and she is still texting his number, but it's been reassigned to music critic Rob Burns (Sam Heughan). Rob is uncertain about love until he meets his next assignment, Céline Dion.

This is a rom-com with some unexpected ideas. The structure is still there. Not all the ideas work. The central premise makes Rob a bit of a stalker. He is obviously going to get caught. That's not a spoiler. Anybody with enough brains for squats could see that coming. Then there is the oddly aggressive Céline Dion. That is a very specific and oddly important cameo. I don't even know if it's called a cameo when she's the third most important character. I'm not saying that this is good or even if it works. It is interesting and that's worth something.

Unnecessary remake that lacks believable chemistry between the main characters.
Love Again is a remake of the German film SMS für Dich. This remake is directed and part-written by People Places Things director Jim Strouse.

Mira Ray (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) tries to ease her pain after the tragic loss of her boyfriend by sending text messages to his old mobile number. Over the years alone, this mobile number has been assigned to a new user, Rob Burns (Sam Heughan), who receives all these messages.

After the many messages, Rob gets impressed by all the passion that Mira puts into her messages and thus starts to have feelings for her, despite never having met her in real life. For example, with the help of Céline Dion, he tries to win her heart about whom he has to write a piece for his work.

This film quickly comes across as a bit unbelievable thanks to all the coincidences. The comedy and drama genres don't always work well balanced next to each other either. For a better story, they could have chosen one of the genres and tried to keep the other out of the movie.

They have updated this remake appropriately by responding more to current events of how mobiles are increasingly impacting our lives with all the different apps these days.

Despite these side effects, the film unfortunately falls into the well-known clichés and situations that appear more often in other romantic films. The film has its predictable moments, which could have made for a better film with some adjustments in the story.

The story also comes across as a bit strange, because it takes place in New York, but was filmed in London. After showing some familiar images of New York, the characters still walk around areas of London. This is how it comes across as a bit strange when they talk about famous places in New York, but then walk around London. It would have been better if they had set the story themselves in London, then these strange situations would have been avoided.

The acting is also not very believable. For example, there is no real believable chemistry between the two leads, so that their relationship in the film comes across as separate or forced rather than really romantic. Sam Heughan also does not come across as credible as someone who has knowledge about music and writes pieces about it. When he has to make a piece about Céline Dion for work, he knows almost nothing about someone as famous as Céline Dion. The company he works for does not come across as credible either, because you see only three other people working in the entire film besides him. Sam Heughan also often changes accent, which only makes his character come across as extra special.

Céline Dion, who plays herself in the film in a way, comes out best in the film. It is strange that she is more concerned with the relationship of two strangers instead of dealing with her new music. The two protagonists actually have a better relationship with her than they really have with each other.

Leap of faith into a brief escape
artchixx2 June 2023
I rarely write reviews.

My ADHD rarely allows me the comfort of spending too much time locked into 1 place or on 1 subject before my brain ping pongs onto something else.

I usually hate what I call "Hallmark" movies.

The overly sweetened, predictable & cheesy flicks that make me roll my eyes to the tune of "that stuff NEVER happens".

Frankly, I signed on because I've always loved Céline Dion. I discovered a random concert video of her when I was in high school. Growing up in "the sticks" with no cable - I rarely was exposed to much beyond my bubble.

The lyrics were in French & I had NO CLUE what she was saying, but I was a band/choir nerd & her voice was like nothing I had ever heard.

I was hooked.

And, seeing Outlander's Sam Heighan was part of the cast has never let me down yet.

So, I gave it a try & hope others do too.

It takes quite a bit for me to get immersed in anything - esp when I felt tingles of "Hallmark movie". I had a few brief moments of thinking a few things similar to other reviews of this movie, but the story & cast were able to carry me into their tale & I plan to rewatch it too!

(Especially since I bought it vs renting it - I had a hunch from the reasons I wrote above & for me, was right).

I know why people love the Hallmark channel.

Those types of movies usually makes my skin crawl & as soon as I see that stamp of "happily ever after" - it's a hard pass in my book.

Love Again may flirt with that type of genre but for me, today, the combo of music, cast, & story pleasantly surprised me.

Love Again got me past "Hallmark movie" vibes & helped me get that romantic escape we all can use from time to time.

Maybe's & "happily ever after's" were my friends for a few hours.

I think as cheesy as it sounds... like love, it has to be the right combination of things to work. Maybe I've never experienced it, Maybe I had it & lost it by my own hand & maybe I will never find a "happily ever after".

BuT, when I can escape from this chaotic world & my busy brain gets quiet long enough to enjoy a sweet romantic flick & I'm fangirl singing Dion's infamous lyrics as the credit roll - seeing Sam on what I imagine is a Scotland mountain in his kilt & "I heart Céline" t-shirt - yeah, It's a hard 10 for me this time.

Plus, I want to check out the original movie it was a remake from & maybe give the novel a look too!

I say - try it - it may not be for everyone but it says so much for me to have taken the time to watch it AND write a review about how much I adored the romantic getaway with Love Again.

Good but ...
J_Andrew_Evans11 May 2023
A pleasant and heartfelt movie but in the end a little too much of a Selene Dion vehicle. That's sad because the main characters are good in the roles and the story is novel and up to date in its thinking and the rollout is well done. I guess the outrage when it was all discovered seemed a little faux and a plot effect. In a real world wouldn't they have talked it out a little more before breaking up? They certainly should have if they did what she claimed she wanted at the end? To paraphrase it was something like "when people love each other they work things out." Would be great if life was really like that. Wouldn't it?

left the cinema 45mins in
UTR114 May 2023
In my 30 yrs of going to the movies, I have only ever left a cinema once before, but this one now makes it my second. The script, production and acting are all second grade and cringeworthy, and much more suited to a straight to tv than spending any money on cinema ticket. It a pity, as the storyline could have worked well if it had landed in better hands. The good weather outside was more inviting than staying to watch the final hour, maybe I might watch what happened next when it's on free to air TV, but probably not. I do love a good rom com, but couldn't get into this one at all because of the bad acting straight from the first scene and from that point forward that's all I could notice.

A good feel-good movie
petraholda14 May 2023
It is a typical rom-com. A man and a woman meet, take time to open themselves to 100%, get together. It is a good movie, not and Oscar´s movie. But that is so with rom-com. I would sayt that I would like to watch it again.

Some scenes in the trailer I had another view/imagimation where they would be, so I was surprised when they showed up differentely. But that is not negative! I liked the transition to different scenes. 2-3 lines was not so good, which made Sam Heughan to strugle to play them. That is like what was negative.

It is not a comedy that make you laugh hysterically. It is a movie that will make you smile. I liked how.

A good movie to watch by your self or with someone. A feel good movie.

Relaunch of Céline Dioooooooon!
Love Again is a boring, nonsense, romantic cliché, that is not heartfelt but basically a filmatic product type platitude effort to relauch the career of romantic song diva Céline Dion, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, which she even mentions in the film, and it of course got its launch date just before this year's ESC in Liverpooool. Dion has in addition co-produced the mishmash and naturally also stars in it . It's almost as if the brilliantly talented Mo Collins from MadTV had made a new parody. On top of this charade most of the user reviews here, which all give 10 stars, are obviouslly either written by the same person, or at least they are all some kind of replica posted by a number of people have been paid to do it, possibly by a someone earlier mentioned. Finally it's adequate to ask: how thin can a soup get before it must be regarded as water?

What Walt's Watching
waltermwilliams12 May 2023
Destiny has a plan...apparently!

Look I'll be the first to admit this type of movie is not normally in my wheelhouse, but to be fair I can't just keep reviewing Horror, Slasher, Action, or Comedies.

If you have ever wanted to see Pop Star Nick Jonas make a cameo in a movie with his own actress wife who roasted him publicly in a loving way on television then do I have a movie for you.

That's right Nick gets to play a dud date who's more into burning carbs by having sex with his real life wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas, but she hits the eject seat!

"Love Again" is a stylistic Comedy, Drama, Romance that will have women flocking to the movies to see if a little of this magic of the heart will enter their daily lives.

They say: A young woman tries to ease the pain of her fiancé's death by sending romantic texts to his old mobile phone number, and forms a connection with the man the number has been reassigned to.

That pretty much sums up the plot to a movie that will become another "Notebook" fully loaded with more cheesy moments than a Pizza Hut Cheesy Crust Pizza.

The Opera "Orpheus and Euridice" by Christoph Willibald Gluck (1762) was used as vehicle to move forward the love story of Scottish actor Sam Heughan ("Outlander") as "Rob Burns" no, not the famous poet, but a music journalist living in New York and Mrs Jonas as "Mira Ray" a children's book writer and illustrator.

Fun Fact: The Opera was originally titled "Orfeo Ed Euridice". You can use that at your next trivia night...be my guest.

Sam and Priyanka's on screen chemistry is very believable and saves this film from the discount bins.

In a very Generation X friendly nod the couple are playing Jenga in one scene at a trendy cafe.

Watch out for: Celine Dion as herself. She steals every scene she's in and made this night at the cinema worthwhile for me. What a voice! BTW the soundtrack is loaded with Celine's hits including the Jim Steinman penned tune "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" complete with a funny shower karaoke scene and a wonderful cover of Eric Carmens' "All By Myself".

If you like playing "Would You Rather" then strap yourself in for the next 1 hour and 44 minutes of "Love Again" possibly the rom com of 2023!

bad in every way

Warning: Spoilers
This has to be one of the worst films ever made. From script, acting and directing. It has no redeeming features. The male lead is wooden, the female lead is over the top, with so much make up on she should come with warning. The sister is even more over the top cannot say a single line without hamming it to the skies. To say it was cliched would be putting it mildly, every twist is glaringly obvious. I can only think that all the 9s and 10s are from people associated with the film. There is nothing more to say other than avoid at all costs, you will never get the time spent watching it back and will just regret seeing it.

What's with the bad reviews!
ilovemovies7435 September 2023
I'm not a huge fan of romantic comedy movies so my standards are pretty high. I've definitely seen some really bad ones! This one was really well put together! Great acting, good writing and funny at the right times!

I adore Sam. Heughan and absolutely love him in outlander. I was worried that he wouldn't be very good in this movie so I avoided it. But after looking for anything new to watch I thought I'd give it a try. Also I think Preyanka Chopra Jones is incredible at action movies so again I just wasn't sure if this movie would work. I'm really glad I gave it a try. It's definitely one you should watch for yourself and see what you think. I don't think you will be disappointed!

I adore Sam and will happily go and see anything he is in. I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would. It was a very average rom com. A little more comedy would have been nice!! But overall it has earned its place. I have viewed much worse and much better films over the years. I enjoyed seeing Celina Dion, I am a hopeless romantic and adore her songs and voice. Sam and Pryanka have great chemistry and the side characters were well developed. An overall nice film. Nothing exciting. Just a Sunday afternoon film with a happy ending! And a couple of pretty stars and good songs to enjoy along the way!

Not my cup of tea!
lareasley24 May 2023
I wasted my time trying to let his show develop into a worthwhile movie to enjoy! Absolutely boring, slow, cheesy and silly plot, Cheesy acting. Terrible plot. Way too much time spent remembering the deceased boyfriend. Very slow to get to where they were trying to get to with the plot. I stayed with it for about 45 minutes, which was way too long, but I saw all the "great" reviews and was hoping that the film would eventually get better. It never got any better. After 45 minutes, I just had to give up and switch it off. I really thought it was a waste of my 45 minutes that I gave waiting for it to develop into something worthwhile.

Wonderful Netflix Rom Com <3
leslie-wagner-pmp3 September 2023
Netflix has a fun line up of movies and series to date. So far they've kept me paying! I love both the leads in this and the supporting cast is nice too! It's about love, loss and starting over. I enjoyed it! I'd like to see Sam in a LOT more! (hubba hubba) The overall formula was a little predictable but guys... it's a ROM COM on Netflix...not The Titanic! I wanted a little more angst and drama with a twist, however, this was a pleasant experience and I believe it was absolutely worth my time tonight. It was nice seeing and hearing Celine Dion too! I've watched everything these two leads have done and it's a lovely addiction.

You can Love Again
shanese-7082118 May 2023
First of all, I went to see this because of Sam Heughan, as I'm sure a lot of the ladies did who are Outlander fans. I also like Priyanka and wanted to see how their chemistry is on screen. I'm disappointed to say that it isn't that good. They didn't convince me that they had fallen in love and I felt almost no emotion from their romance onscreen. I still enjoyed seeing them both in the same movie because I like them both. Priyanka's chemistry with the actor who played the love of her life also fell flat and was not convincing. There were some laugh-out-loud moments and it was fun to see Nick Jonas, Priyanka's real-life husband, as a cameo for a few minutes onscreen with her. This would be a perfect movie for a take-out night at home with a lighthearted, feel-good movie. I wish I had done that instead. But overall, I really liked the message of the movie, which was that you can always love one person and still move on and make space for someone else in your heart; you can Love Again.

So boring i almost died
rtfykgtx6 May 2023
I literally kept waiting for something to happen, the story was so dead that watching paint dry is more entertaining.

The acting was average, the story was poor.

Yes romcoms are formulaic but this was a romdep. Romance Depression.

I regret having wasted my money and time and would highly recommend that if you wanna see it just wait for it to come on a streaming channel.

The sad part is that I was actually excited to watch this, but I was miserably let down by the poor storyline, the average acting, and the almost depressingly, repetitive, mopping, crying sad story of the main character whining about her dead boyfriend.

celine, actress and producer
ksf-28 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"love again" in many countries, but called "it's all coming back to me" in the u.s.

Minor spoilers...remade from the german film "sms für dich". In the modern age of apps, internet dating, cell phones and facebook, mira (priyanka jonas) is very sad after losing her fiancee. So dealing with her grief, she starts texting messages to his old cell number. Of course, the number has been given to someone new. Drunk texting is never a good idea! The recipient of the texts is rob (sam heughan, from outlander), who isn't sure what to do about it. Some fun names in this.. nick jonas, russell tovey. And of course, celine, who acts and produces! A love story. Can everyone chill out and just be open to what life brings them? Fun version of all by myself, sung by celine. It's a pretty simple love story. Nothing fancy, no twists. And sadly, not a lot of chemistry between the leads. The basic story is good but there just aren't fireworks here. And that scene with the boss pretending to yell at rob is just ridiculous. Didn't serve any purpose. It's all okay. Some fun stuff in the end credits. Directed by jim strouse.. has won some film fest awards.
