- Cedric and Bert set out to explore Beaver Bite swamp, but almost get trapped in it, until a hermit dog by the name of Herman saves them. Herman shows them his family's home that was built high in the trees, as well as all sorts of useful survival information about the swamp. Herman also explains that more than likely, there's oil deep within the swamp.
Returning home, Cedric tells Cyril about the oil possibility, and Cyril sends out his pigs to do some investigating. When they confirm this, Cyril sets out to claim a title/deed to Beaver Bite swamp, and puts in a large order to Mammoth Industries for numerous oil-related equipment.
The pigs soon encounter Herman, who orders them gone. However, they return with a title that claims that since there appears to be no title/deed to the swamp, Cyril intends to claim it the next day. Unsure what to do, Herman prepares to leave his home. However, after thinking things over, he seeks out Bert, Cedric and their friends. Asking for their help, Herman admits to them a secret that he has never told anyone: he can't read. Showing them a box of papers that his father left him, Bert finds that Herman actually does have a title/deed to the swamp.
The group rushes off and encounters Cyril and the Assayer, presenting the title. Cyril of course is non-plussed about being denied a fortune in oil, but Herman and his friends have won.
Sometime afterward, Bert and Cedric show up at Herman's place to help him learn to read.
Over the closing credits, Cyril attempts to return all the unused oil equipment, but is informed that all sales are final.
