- Bea tells Maria that she was once turned to stone by the Gorgon but the talisman can revert the process. It is too late for previous victims but Alan can be saved though there is a deadline. The nuns have the talisman but Luke snatches it from them and destroys the portal which will give the Gorgons access. The Gorgon, actually the Abbess of the nuns' order, is about to remove her veil to petrify Sarah Jane but Maria, using a mirror given her by Bea, reverts the Gorgon's look onto Sister Helena instead, ending the power of the Gorgon. Alan is changed back to himself and his ex-wife Chrissie, who has come to move in with him but generally caused more upset, goes back to her boyfriend.—don @ minifie-1
- Alan Jackson is turned to stone as the nuns take the gorgon and the talisman and leave, Sister Helena declaring that the gorgons need humanity to survive. Mr. Smith analyzes Alan and concludes that he hasn't been fully petrified, but will in time. Sarah Jane takes Maria back to Lavender Lawns to speak with Bea and try to find a cure before it's too late, the goes back to the abbey to find Luke and Clyde. The boys meanwhile are trapped in the library. Luke reads a book on the history of the building, and finds a secret passageway in the wall that leads them outside. They find themselves in a huge garden filled with human statues, the gorgon's victims. They see the sisters return with the talisman, and watch the gorgon stumble. Helena says they must use the talisman to open the portal to the gorgon homeworld immediately. Luke tells Clyde they have to stop them, giving up their chance to run.
The nuns place the talisman on an alter, which begins to glow. It will open the portal within the hour, but the gorgon is weakening and must find a new host before it does. Maria tries to get through to Bea, but she is fully immersed in the past. She tells Maria about her departed husband, Edgar. She slips back into the past again and cannot hear Maria as time run is running out. Chrissie goes to Sarah Jane's house looking for Alan and Maria and finds the petrified Alan, assuming it to be a strange statue. Thinking she's alone, she confesses she is guilty about running out on him and her daughter, but says they are better off without her. She leaves, and a tear runs down the statue's cheek. At the abbey, the portal nears completion. Suddenly, Clyde rings the bells to distract to nuns while Luke steals the talisman, narrowly avoiding being turned to stone by the gorgon. They make a break for it. Sarah Jane climbs over the garden wall to get in and finds the boys, but all three are cornered and recaptured. The nuns lock them in a cellar, and Luke tells Sarah Jane the gorgon is dying. Sarah Jane realizes that the Abbess herself is only the host of the gorgon, which is why they need humanity to survive. Once the portal is opened, the gorgons will take over human bodies and rule the world. The nuns come and take Sarah Jane away, promising not to harm her.
At the rest home, Maria despairs that Bea has seen so much and still has no one who will believe her. Bea tells her to find her own 'Edgar', and comes back to the present. Maria explains the situation, and Bea tells her that she was also turned to stone by a gorgon once. The talisman was the key to turning her back, as well as being the key to the gorgon's invasion. She insists Maria take her mirror with her to fight the gorgon as Maria races to the abbey. The nuns take Sarah Jane to the growing portal, and tell her that the gorgon has chosen her as it's new host. Luke and Clyde use tools in the cellar to unscrew the door latch and escape, as Sarah Jane is prepared to be possessed by the gorgon. They try to save her but are stopped by the nuns as the portal begins to open. Maria arrives just as the gorgon leaves its host body, and uses the mirror to reflect itself, turning it to stone. The remove the talisman before the gorgons can come through, and the nuns are finally released from the gorgon's thrall.
The group return home and place the talisman on Alan, who returns to flesh and blood, unconscious. They put him outside, and he assumes he fell asleep. Maria reunite with her family, and Chrissie tries to show them Alan's statue, which everyone denies was ever there. She reconciles with her boyfriend and goes home. Maria wonders if the talisman could reverse Bea's Alzheimers, and Sarah says it's worth a try. They take the talisman and return it to Bea, assuring her the gorgon is dead. As she puts it around her neck again, the talisman does not cure her, but it does let her live peacefully in her memories.
