- Visiting Sarah Jane Maria is shocked to find her place taken by Andrea, a woman of the same age group who has apparently lived in the house for years. A newspaper from over forty years earlier reveals that Sarah Jane, then 13, fell to her death from a pier where she and Andrea were playing. When Maria confronts her with this Andrea goes to her attic and conjures up a cloaked figure, the Trickster, who sends a dwarf called the Graske to transport Maria back to 1964, where she meets schoolgirls Andrea and Sarah Jane.—don @ minifie-1
- At a skateboard park, Sarah Jane, Clyde, Luke, Maria, and Maria's dad Alan are hanging out while Clyde tries to show off his skateboarding tricks. Alan stuns everyone by showing Clyde how to do it properly, as he was an avid skateboarder in his youth. They take photos together when suddenly Sarah Jane feels a strange chill and senses something is wrong, as a black robed and hooded figure watches from the shadows. They all head home, Maria stopping by Sarah Jane's house on the way. Alan finds the constant secrecy around Maria and her friends strange, but tolerates it. In the attic, Mr. Smith checks on the progress of a large meteor that is hurtling towards earth on a collision course, through a radar blindspot. Maria is worried, but Sarah Jane and Luke assure her Mr. Smith will activate a magnetic field when it gets to close and bounce it back into space. Maria muses that without Sarah Jane, the entire planet would be doomed. When Luke leaves, Sarah Jane gives Maria a metal puzzle box that was given to her by an alien soothsayer, who instructed her to give it to the person she trusts the most, saying only "remember". Maria takes it home and opens it, though it does not contain anything. That night, the hooded figure walks into Bannerman Road and dissipates Sarah Jane's car, as all the lights in her house go dark In Maria's room, the puzzle box begins to glow.
The next morning, Maria finds unfamiliar plants in the house, and Alan reminds her they were a birthday gift from their neighbor, Andrea. Maria doesn't know who Andrea is, which confuses Alan. Maria goes to Sarah Jane's house, but a strange woman of Sarah Jane's age greets her. She claims to have no knowledge of Sarah Jane Smith, or Luke, and has apparently lived in number 13 all this time. Maria runs home to alert Alan, who also doesn't know about Sarah Jane or her son. Maria tries to show him the pictures they too the previous day, but finds them changed to have Andrea there with her, Alan and Clyde. Maria tries to call Clyde, who says he doesn't know her except from school, and he doesn't know anyone named Luke. Maria suddenly realizes that the meteor is still headed for earth, without Sarah Jane, there is no way to stop it. She runs back to number 13 and barges into the house, but looking around there are only Andrea's things. Even the attic is just a dusty storage space, with no Mr. Smith built into the wall. Maria insists that the house belongs to Sarah Jane, but Alan takes her home. Still the name starts ringing a bell for Andrea. At the Jackson house, Maria tries to explain to Alan about Sarah Jane, but he does not believe her. Maria figures something must have changed time and only she remembers how it's supposed to be. She looks up Sarah Jane online, finding only one mention of a girl who died in the 1960's. They go the library and find an article from 1964 saying that Sarah Jane Smith died after falling from a pier, and her friend Andrea Yates who witnessed the accident. For a moment the names swap places then swap back, confirming Maria's theory. She hears Sarah Jane's voice calling out to her, but the entire situation worries Alan, who thinks Maria might be losing it. To calm him down, Maria plays along and says she is just tired and confused. However, she goes to see Andrea and tells her she knows about the accident that killed her childhood friend, and threatens to find a way to set things right. Andrea sends her away, and upset she goes to the attic and finds a puzzle box identical to Maria's tucked away. She sees the hooded, faceless figure in the mirror, and remembers everything about the accident, including their "deal". Andrea asks the figure to make Maria forget about Sarah Jane, but the figure says she is protected somehow. However, he can remove her like he removed Sarah Jane, as long as Andrea agrees. She does and the later distracts Alan so that Maria will be alone.
Maria figures out the puzzle box is what protected her and goes to find Alan, but is confronted by a small alien, a Graske, who chases her. While she is running, she drops the puzzle box. Alan returns home at the commotion, finding the puzzle box on the floor, and picks it up. Meanwhile, the Graske chases Maria to a dead end and fires a device that teleports them both away. Suddenly, the world around Alan starts spinning as the box glows once again. When it settles, Alan gets up to find his ex-wife Chrissie coming over for Andrea's birthday party. When Alan asks about their daughter, Chrissie claims they never had any kids. The Graske takes Maria through an extra-planar dimension, but Maria frees herself, falling through time and landing in the 1960s. She asks a couple of girls where she is, and one of them introduces herself as Sarah Jane Smith.
