Telling the story of a mother whose son has gone as part of the British contribution to the war in Iraq, this film was in equal parts irritating and moving. Irritating in the sense that the mundane is really not at all interesting, and it is the ho-hum day-to-day life of the soldier's mother which is depicted. Her football-obsessed husband and tragically up and down in love sister get snippets here and there, but the focus is on the mother, who intensely misses her son.
Then, the awful quiet of the ending!
This more than made up for the stir-crazy feelings I'd felt through most of the preceding twenty or so minutes.
Not bad.
