The Fun in the Funeral is another charming episode of "Pushing Daises"

Warning: Spoilers
Well, what a treat to see Chuck's aunts back after missing from the second episode of "Pushing Daises". In this one, after Chuck bakes a pie for them with her special ingredient, Olive delivers it to their house and figures who their niece was/is when she talks to them but thinks Chuck faked her death. Meanwhile, Emerson leads Ned and Chuck to the man who died one minute after Chuck was brought back to life revealing to Chuck what happens if Ned doesn't touch the previous dead person again during that time limit. This dead person, Laurence Schatz, robbed the dead of their heirlooms and now many of their relatives are writing complaints against his brother and funeral co-owner, Louis. There's also a man who has a crush on Olive who sells medicine bottles that help people become happy...A charmingly whimsical episode of "Pushing Daises" that was almost as good as the pilot episode. Glad to see Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Greene won't be limited to one-shot appearances. Loved Emerson being stuck on that grate with Chuck comparing him to Pooh in "The Honey Tree" episode! Wonder what Olive is going to do with her info. Ned and Chuck are so cute together! Too bad about that "no touching" part, though! Can't wait for next week!

Warning: Spoilers
When Ned revived Chuck and let her remain alive in the first episode the crooked funeral director died in her place so it inevitably comes as a bit of a shock when Emerson is hired to find out who killed him! The deceased's twin had hired him believing that his brother had been killed by one of the people he had stolen from... while obviously not wanting to solve the case Emerson would like to know where the loot was hidden! After Ned touches the dead man we learn that his twin isn't as innocent as he claimed but before they can do anything about it he turns up dead too... in a refrigerator at The Pie Hole! In order to avoid being accused of murder they take the body back to the funeral directors and here Ned must confront the killer who is armed with a sword.

With Chuck learning about the funeral director Ned is forced to explain what happened and she must come to terms with the fact that a random person died so that she might live. Olive is still not happy that Chuck is back in Ned's life and makes the acquaintance of a man who appears to be keen on her but she doesn't see it. This man is a purveyor or herbal remedies which gives Chuck an idea of how to cheer her aunts... she will bake them a pie containing anti-depressants; little suspecting that Olive would deliver it and come to realise that she is the supposedly dead niece; Olive might not know why she isn't dead but she obviously knows something isn't right.

This series continues to impress with its whimsical stories, delightful dialogue and fun cast of characters. It was nice to see Ellen Greene and Swoosie Kurtz return as Chuck's aunts Vivian and Lily as it would have been a shame if their appearance had been limited to one episode. The conclusion of the mystery might have seemed a little silly but I found it amusing. It is also good to see Kristin Chenoweth's role as Olive expanding; no doubt her discovery about Chuck will be important in later episodes.

Aside from a dopey choice for the 'killer', it's a very good episode.

This is a very good episode of "Pushing Daisies", though I thought the ending was a bit too forced--even for a show as bizarre as this one. It picks up with the end of the first episode--with the death of Chuck. You see, with Ned's power, when he revives someone permanently, someone else MUST die. And so, a nearby person died--a scum-bag mortician who delighted in stealing from the dead. His twin brother is approaching Emerson to take him as a client, as he wants to learn who killed his brother--so he can apparently learn where the loot is hidden. But it's not nearly as simple as this--many strange and funny twists follow. However, as I said at the beginning, the Civil War buff at the end seemed too strange even for this show and was a bit forced. But with such a delightful show apart from this, I can allow for this.
