This film is considered an Ozploitation picture, an Australian exploitation movie.
During the first part of the movie, John arrives at a town called Cullen. There is no such town in NSW, Australia, the actual town is called Wilcannia. The Cullen signs are props, including the "Cullen is a titty town" sign. He drives in on the Barrier Highway over the Darling River bridge, then enters Martin Street to fill up at the BP petrol station.
The movie reflects the rivalry between fans of the motor vehicle makes, Ford and Holden, which is prominent in Australia. John (from the city) drives his red Ford Fairmont into a rural Australian environment that is Holden country - Roscoe, the police officer, wears a belt with Holden buckle; the petrol station owner's t-shirt proclaims the superiority of Holdens; the vehicle that spots the Ford is a Holden with the word emblazoned across its rear.
