Rob Lowe is carrying the whole show
robfollower21 January 2020
Rob Lowe is carrying the whole show. He is good with comedic sensibilities.

The crew races to a disaster at a wave pool, and an outbreak of mercury poisoning leaving its victims in a zombie-like state; Owen must come to terms with his illness; Michelle follows a new lead on her missing sister.

Little disappointed. I'm hoping it will get better - a less preachy, more entertaining drama. Need to focus on bringing out Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler's strengths.

Sub par writing and acting is cringe-worthy

Warning: Spoilers
In the mercury poisoning storyline a woman starts scratching her skin to the point that she is bleeding, she then bangs her head into a glass wall and it shatters. During all of this one of her co-workers is just standing there watching, then she walks off the ledge and dies. The co-worker? He stood there and shouted at her as she fell to her death. He was STANDING right behind her, clearly any normal person would have saved her, what gives? Do the writers think that no one will pay attention to the victim stories because we are somehow blinded by the hair on Rob Lowe? Why even cast him in the one role he was not meant to play? When he heard the call come in on the first episode he looks up as if to see where the sound could be coming from and kinda stumbles over himself to get ready and dressed. I know it is very petty, especially for a pilot, it just seems like there should be enough people reviewing footage and editing that things like this shouldn't happen. Either way, it's pretty entertaining and it is refreshing to get a break from the LA characters.

The D word. No, the other D word.

Just like the core show this spin-off hails from, this one has a lot going for it. It most certainly isn't going to please a lot of people. Personally, I like the diversity. And the way the stereotypes are played to in one over-the-top encounter is comical and mildly sad. This episode certainly has a liberal appeal to it, not going to lie. And since I'm a liberal, it appeals to me.

Give it a chance

This show is not bad, it's actually far from bad but it's going to take time to come around to everyone. It's disgusting how many people are talking about how the gay scenes make them uncomfortable and this show is too PC, how could you say that. Shame on you

GREAT SHOW DESPITE THE REVIEWS
Chanel_and_gucci1229 April 2021
All the people in these reviews saying things like "too many gay scenes" or "the gays being shoved down our throat" - do you also keep that same energy when there's constant straight couples or straight scenes in tv shows? Just say you're homophobic and go. It's not Rob Lowe's fault you're intolerant.

Absolutely Disappointing and Disgusting

Thought I would try and give the show second try because I like Rob Lowe's acting. So what did they do, added a new stereotype, a witch. Too many in your face gay scenes. I will not continue to watch and I will warn others. Sorry Rob Lowe , talk to your agent and go back to the wholesome movies and shows we all like you in.

Great show. Well written and excellent acting. Very believable story line like all those people eating sandwiches laced with mercury

Eh....

I like Rob Lowe, and the show has potential....but it's a little too over the top in some areas. I understand we live in a world where being politically correct is somewhat of a .....requirement. But, I think this show, like a lot of Hollywood, is going a bit far. Does EVERY couple HAVE to be interracial.Stereotypes are plentiful, and the gay sexual scenes are a little too much. Yes, the original has some of this, too...it's just not so far to the extreme.

Wow, that was bad!

Warning: Spoilers
And I thought the first episode was not good.

The hair thing was stupid. I get it, nobody likes loosing their but why spend so much time on it? First of all, nobody said he would. Second, what are you a woman? Plus his hair is ok but it's not that amazing, or is it just me? Third, he is a firefighter so one would expect him to understand what's important in life. Last, it's cancer so you know, what's more important your look or your life?

The racist lady was stupid too. Was it supposed to be funny? I didn't laugh. We get it, the 126 is very diverse.

The Mercury thing was ridiculous! The guy "doing his thing" was not funny. Plus, seriously? Nobody noticed they are eating a silver liquid? I've never actually tasted mercury but even if it's tasteless, I bet you can feel there's a pool of it in your sandwich when you're taking a bite. Also, why would the guy just come back there? If he wanted recognition he should have stayed, watch them and then confess. The whole thing felt off.

Lastly, it's not cool to make fun of mentally ill people plus please stop pretending that it can be solved so easily!! The guy wouldn't leave his apartment so easily just cause they said a sentence or two. These kind of things are very complicated and hard. Also PTSD doesn't resolve by counting to five so I hope they are not done with that. I don't get why he's even back in the field anyway? The Captain said he wasn't ready and then all of a sudden he was? Isn't it a little irresponsible to being someone who suffers from PTSD to work when there are lives on he line?!

Just trying way to hard to be woke.

As stated above there is potential for the show but by far it doesn't hold match to the original. Dial back and it has a chance to be a decent show. Rob lowe is really carrying this crew, focus on character development instead of what tag they wear.
