Slave Scarecrow
Even the title of the episode has sinister overtones. The Traveling Scarecrow Maker has captured Worzel Gummidge and held him bound.
At first The Traveling Scarecrow Maker offers Worzel breakfast but it is not for him. He expects Worzel to make breakfast for him from now on. He will be a slave scarecrow.
The Traveling Scarecrow Maker also has other plans for Worzel. He hypnotises him and sends him off to hack down Aunt Sally.
So off goes Worzel who is zombified. All the while the kids see a poster of a zombie movie playing in a cinema. For a brief moment Worzel Gummidge returns to normal.
It is left to the Crowman to save Worzel Gummidge.
There are flashbacks to the original show as Worzel dreamt of marrying Aunt Sally. We are a long way from those innocent times.
This is a darker edged Worzel, more in keeping with the folklore horror part of the books. It was sinister to see Worzel with those razor sharp teeth.
