Sex & Nudity

  • This film deals with two Alternate Realities of the same person's life. In one Alternative, that character, "John / The John," spends the entire day with a young Hooker. In the other, he's shown in happy scenes with his wife and his four adult children. There's no nudity in the film, but in the Hooker Alternative it's clearly implied that The John and The Hooker have sex (shown in an indirect "Broadcast TV" style). There's also adult-themed street slang as they spend a large part of the day discussing what they're doing with their lives and why (The Hooker details a history of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather), and as they negotiate sex for money. Fade / blend cuts intermingle The John's interaction with The Hooker, and his romantic interaction with his wife in the other Alternate Reality.

Violence & Gore

  • The John puts a choke-hold on The Hooker because something she said offended him. Later, he twice pulls a gun on her. The John is shown shooting up drugs. The Hooker is shown vomiting up her Chinese dinner. SPOILER -- At the end of the film, there are two suicides with blood-splatter.

Profanity

  • The Hooker uses the term "bastard" a couple of times. Other than that, there's no ordinary profanity. But the entire interaction between The John and The Hooker is edgy by definition and is laced with references to indelicate subjects.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The Hooker starts to get smoking materials out of her purse (below camera frame), but The John tells her that his room is "No Smoking" and makes her put them away again. The John and The Hooker have wine with dinner. The John is shown shooting up a drug (which we later infer is Testosterone or some other libido-booster). The Hooker is shown with a smudge of cocaine powder next to one nostril. There's a lot of dialogue about drug use.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The John pulls a revolver from a motel dresser drawer and extracts information from The Hooker at gunpoint. Later, that gun is used as a tool of suicide.
