The second-to-last show of the season is hosted by Molly Shannon, the second female former SNLer (after Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to guest host at her former stomping grounds. In the cold opening, Ryan Seacrest (Bill Hader) tells Melinda Doolittle (Maya Rudolph) that she is both on and off American Idol. Then Mary Katherine Gallager (Shannon) storms in and does the sticking-fingers-in-armpits routine, quotes Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs in the Jackson 5 miniseries, and knocks Hader down before jumping down declaring herself, "Superstar!" and then saying, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" During the monologue, Molly reminisces about her flirtation with producer Lorne Michaels (as recreated on film) before mentioning her affair with Don Pardo. Next, a commercial parody for Unigro which gives you a thicker urine. After that, we're at an apartment meeting where Penelope (Kristen Wiig) keeps annoying everyone with her constant one-oneupmanship of adding words to what other people say. Molly's character is especially annoyed and gets everyone to leave without Penelope as she literally vanishes. Now we're at the Presidential Primary Debate of parties other than Democratic and Republican with Dan Rather (Darrell Hammond) moderating. Among the candidates are some from the Nazi party (Shannon), NAMBLA (Will Forte), Whig (Andy Samberg), and Wig (Rudolph). Then we go to The Soprano's Bada Bing strip club with Tony (Hammond) and his men (Fred Armison, Jason Sudeikis) as Sally O'Malley (Shannon) auditions. "I'm fifty!" After Linkin Park perform their first set, Amy Poehler mentions the first item on Weekend Update, "President Bush hosted his first black tie party for Queen Elizibeth. In his next platinum tie party, he'll host Spider-Man." Molly reprises unfunny comic Jeanne Darcy ("Don't get me started") to Seth Meyers' laughter while Amy gets stone-faced. Fred appears as a blind bar-b-q chef. Seth mentions Sigmond Freud's 105th birthday while mistakenly saying, "penis" instead of "cigar". Hyperactive Kaitlin (Poehler), in this next sketch, entertains at an old-folks home while "stepdad Rick is in the car" as she waits for her mom (Shannon), who's just like her as they wheel the granddad (Armisen) to a restaurant for Mother's Day. In the first of a three-part segment, MacGruber (Forte) makes a bloody Mary while trapped in a bomb site with Shannon and Rudolph. The bomb explodes. Another segment has Maya as lounge singer Charlie, with former gay step son Keenan Thompson at the piano, singing the blues with best friend Toni (Shannon). On the animated TV Funhouse, we explore the troubles Albert Einstein had with his man-boobs along with Winston Churchill and Lassie. Second MacGruber has him already drunk asking his female co-horts to kiss him (they refuse) and then singing his theme song on guitar as another bomb goes off. After Linkin Park's next set ends, Donald Trump (Hammond) hawks his "black anus" steak with wife Melonia (Shannon) for "$999.00"! Final MacGruber has him completely drunk with shirt off and only one female companion (Maya left). Shannon eventually leaves as another bomb goes off. At the goodnights, Molly says, "Happy Mother's Day", before going to commercial...Mostly hilarious show though I did feel a little confused by some of the lounge singer sketch with Maya, Keenan, and Molly. Funniest part was Weekend Update especially those items from Amy about Paris Hilton thinking the word "sign" means "putting my mouth in it" and Seth's mentioning a Mickey Mouse copycat named Farfur on a Palastine children's TV show replacing a terrorist Dora the Explorer depicted with bullets on her. And the Trump sketch where Hammond keeps mentioning "black anus". LOL To sum up, Molly and the show was funny throughout. Next, the last show with Zach Braff and Maroon 5.
