- Lex tasks Supergirl with protecting Andrea from an anti-tech extremist; Lena moves forward with Non Nocere, with Lex's help.
- Lex forces Supergirl to protect Andrea from an anti-tech extremist as Andrea prepares to roll out Platinum Obsidian. Alex goes through her first day of being on her own rather than with the DEO, Lex tries to forge a partnership with Leviathan, and Kara considers whether refusing to accept William's dinner invitation was a mistake.—Gislef
- An Amazonian warrior fights a dragon, bringing it down with a flaming arrow. The simulation then ends for the woman wearing the Obsidian Lenses. Kara, Alex, and Nia look on at the pop-up exhibit, and Kara talks about how it's great now that Alex no longer works for the DEO under Lex. Kelly joins them, and she and Alex kiss. Alex congratulates Kelly on the tech that she's developed, and Kelly gives her a box full of comfort food as a gift.
William comes over with lattes for Kara and Nia, and Alex and Kelly quickly excuse themselves. He knows their preferences and gives them their lattes, and then leaves.
At her office, Andrea sees an ad with herself promising that the countdown for a major launch of Obsidian Lenses begins for the premiere that night. She gets in an elevator and goes up, but an energy burst hits it and it plummets down the shaft. Supergirl arrives and catches the car, and when they go to Andrea's CatCo office, Franklin gives Andrea an anti-Obsidian manifesto that was delivered from the saboteur. The saboteur tells Andrea to stop the release or more people will die. Andrea refuses to postpone.
In her lab, Lena tested Non Nocere on a dog and an alien lizard, calming them down. Lex comes in and congratulates Lena on her success. Lena notes that she hasn't tested it on a human brain yet, and repeats Supergirl's pre-Crisis accusation that Lena is developing mind control. Lex assures Lena that she hasn't changed into Lillian yet, and Lena insists that Non Nocere can create a utopia and Supergirl doesn't understand. Her stepbrother says that he's set up a human trial at the prison that they own, and gets a text summoning him away.
Lex goes to the DEO and meets with Querl, who has broken Toyman's immortality code so they can use it against Leviathan. Querl has figured that Leviathan is a techno-organic species from the same system as Krypton, and they need to weaken their invulnerable skin enough to inject the code. Querl suggests that there's one possibility that requires access to Leviathan's base of operations, but they don't know where it is. Reiff comes in and says that there's been an attack on Andrea. Once she leaves, Querl brings up a news report saying that Andrea has vowed to continue with the launch that night. Lex suggests that they need to get closer to Leviathan to find their base, and since Gemma is invested in Andrea and the launch. If they protect Andre then it will get them closer to Leviathan.
Querl calls in Supergirl and Lex asks her to guard Andrea. Supergirl refuses, and Querl identifies the electrical energy as belonging to an alien species, the Chlorophyllians, that is impossible to track. Lex reminds Supergirl that he has leverage on her, and Andrea will die if Supergirl doesn't intervene.
The killer walks past one of Andrea's advertising screens, shorting it out with her energy.
At the tower, John tells Alex that they have more cases than he can count. There are no leads on what Lex is up to, and Alex admits that she's not comfortable with all the "freedom" that she has now that she is no longer working for a boss. Supergirl arrives and tells them about Lex's assignment. They figure Lex has an ulterior motive or a trap, and Supergirl asks them to help her investigate. John knows about the Chlorophyllians but is also aware they can't siphon off electrical energy. They agree to investigate, and Supergirl flies off to Andrea.
Lex meets Gemma at CatCo and he "offers" her Supergirl for Andrea's protection. Gemma isn't interested, but Lex says that Gemma's "people" don't want to be in the public spotlight. Lex offers Gemma anonymity, and Gemma agrees but warns that they don't give second chances so he shouldn't make promises he can't keep.
In prison, the warden tells Lena that the volunteer prisoners range from the violent to the cowardly. They watch Steve bumps into another prisoner, Toby. When Toby threatens Steve, the warden calls the guards in. Steve tells Lena that people like him don't stand a chance in prison, but hopes that after Lena's trials he won't have to worry.
Supergirl meets with Andrea, who thanks her for guarding her. She takes a selfie of the two of them together, and Supergirl says that she cancelled the live launch because of the security risk. Natalie Guzman arrives and greets her friend Andrea, and William arrives with her and shakes hands with Supergirl. He says that he's covering the launch and following Andrea around the entire day, and Supergirl worries that he could be in the line of fire if the Chlorophyllian attacks. William isn't impressed by the danger, and notes that it's also a major scoop.
John and Alex go to Al's and talk to one of the bartenders, Harry. He hasn't seen a Chlorophyllian but points out a bar patron, Dmitri, who knows everybody. Dmitri tries to run when Alex approaches him, but John easily shoves him back down on his stool . Alex admits that she's roughed up Dmitri once or twice when she was tracking a lead. She tells Dmitri that she doesn't work for the government and they need Dmitri's help, and Dmitri says that he knows an arms dealer who mentioned a Chlorophyllian looking for military-grade tech. The dealer said he had to go to a farmhouse outside of the city, and Alex thanks him and apologizes for roughing him up the last time they met.
As they leave, Alex calls Querl and John warns that if Lex finds out Querl is working with them, it could put Querl at risk. Querl takes the call, and Alex asks him to confirm that the Chlorophyllian lives at the farm. He claims that there's no such farm, but Alex and John go out there to check it out. Meanwhile, Querl brings up a photo of the farm's owner, Todd Sapphire. He contacts one of his counterparts via hologram and explains his situation, and his doppelganger tells Querl to trust the math and remain allied with Lex.
Lena has the prisoners put in the Obsidian Lenses and uploads the Non Nocere program. They remove their lenses and Toby invites Steve to have a meal with him. A confused Steve agrees, and as they go Steve tells Lena that she's a genius.
Andrea tapes an interview, and William asks Supergirl what she thinks of the situation. Supergirl says that the Chlorophyllian makes some decent points despite his violent attitude, and figures that people disconnecting from the real world could cause irreparable damage. William believes that Obsidian taps into people's desire to feel connected. He says that Kara reminds him of what it feels like to really be connected to people, and he doesn't want to live in a perfect VR world.
The lights go out and the same energy as before flickers through the studio. The Chlorophyllian transports in and fires a blast at Andrea, and Supergirl blocks it. Before she can stop him, the Chlorophyllian escapes the same way it came in.
Afterward, Andrea tells Supergirl that she won't go a safer location. She explains that the company is her father's work, and he and she sacrificed everything. Andrea admits that she's pushed away friends for her own gain, but she would do it all again and won't stop just because someone is threatening her. Andrea's next appearance is at the pop-up, and Supergirl agrees to let Andrea continue but warns that she won't let her out of her sight.
As Lena and the warden watch, Steve gets nervous as Toby comes around still trying to be his friend. When Steve finally tries to punch Dmitri, his arm locks up before he can hit and Steve screams in pain as he has a seizure. Lena and the warden run in, and they take Steve to the infirmary. When Steve wakes up, Lena tells him what happened. Steve explains that he thought Toby was going to hit him, and he felt that he wanted to be the bully when Toby approached him. He tells Lena that all he feels is a hunger for violence and revenge, and it's far worse than anything Toby ever did to him. Lena apologizes, and Steve wonders why she hasn't fixed him. She says that she will.
That night John and Alex break into the barn of the farmhouse and finds trays of growing plants. There's a book on the return to nature, but no sign of the Chlorophyllian. There are schematics of weapon-grade components, including a power gauntlet.
At the pop-up, Supergirl tells Andrea to stay with her at all times. Andrea agrees and then meets with crowd waiting outside.
The lights in the farm flicker, and the Chlorophyllian teleport in and says that they shouldn't be there. He blasts them, and John and Alex take cover. When John grapples with the Chlorophyllian, the Chlorophyllian drains John's energy and directs it against him, rendering him unconscious. Alex throws a metal pipe, destroying the fuse box the Chlorophyllian is drawing his power from. With his remaining power, the Chlorophyllian sets the barn on fire. As he leaves, Alex runs to the unconscious John and signals Supergirl. Supergirl tells Andrea that they have to go, flies her to the DEO, and leaves her off to rescue her friends. She blows out the flames and John figures that the gauntlet is enhancing the Chlorophyllian's energy-redirection abilities. They go through the wreckage looking for clues.
At her lab, Lena is trying to figure out what went wrong in Steve's brain. Lex comes in and Lena reminds him of how he deluded himself into thinking he was saving the human race when he was actually destroying it by turning the sun red. She wonders if she's just as deluded, and Lex tells her that Lena always wanted to focus on the more philanthropic aspects of LuthorCorp, and Lex fired her for it. He says that Lena is going down the same path as he was, and now he's going to do things the right way rather than focus on destroying Superman. He tells her not to let her obsession with what Supergirl thinks get in her way, but Lex believes in what Lena is doing and they'll figure it out together.
John realizes that Alex wants to talk and approaches her. Alex worries that she didn't matter because she doesn't have a team or superpowers, and wonders if the DEO was holding her up. John tells her that she reminded him that it takes a way to grow into a new version of himself. He advises her to give herself time to recalibrate, and know that they all have her back.
Supergirl finds a box with papers on Todd, confirming that he worked for Obsidian. He became addicted to the VR lenses and was terminated after he stole a pair for an all-night binge. There's a suicide note written by Todd to his wife named Amy, saying that he's homesick and can't go on. There's an obituary of Todd, saying that he died a year ago, and they figure that Amy blames Obsidian for Todd's death and is trying to kill Andrea.
Amy arrives at CatCo, activates her gauntlets, and yells at everyone to get out if they want to live as she draws powers from the lights. The employees run out, and Amy asks William where Andrea is. William says that Andrea isn't there, and Amy insists that she's stopping the launch. Supergirl arrives and blasts Amy back, and grabs her. Amy uses the gauntlets to absorb and redirect Supergirl's powers, then blasts her back across the room. Dreamer arrives and blocks Amy as she blasts William and Supergirl, then blasts the overhead lights as a distraction so she can escape.
The power goes out throughout National City, and Reiff tells Querl that they\'re under possible terrorist attack. Andrea overhears her and explains that Obsidian core failsafe pulls power from the city's power grid is if loses power. If the power depletion, it could cause the city's transformers to explode. Querl tells Andrea that it's too dangerous and he'll go to CatCo to take the failsafe offline. He points out that Lex promised Gemma that Andrea wouldn't be in danger, and has Reiff put Andrea in a holding cell.
At Obsidian, Kelly begs Amy to stop. Alex tackles Kelly out of the way as Amy fires a blast her, while John leads the staff doctors to safety. He gets them into an elevator, phases through the floor, and pushes the car up the shaft, phasing it through the roof at the top.
Supergirl finds Andrea and asks her how she got there so fast from the DEO, and Andrea claims that she convinced her some agents to bring her. The heroine says that Todd became addicted to a prototype version of Obsidian, but Andrea says that there are other stories out there. The Obsidian employees used the VR reality to cope with the trauma they experienced, and Andrea insists that she's there to help people. Shed then goes to a secret vault where she has the Acrata necklace hidden, and takes it out. The necklace begins to transform her.
Back at the tower, John congratulates Alex on making it through her first day. He says that she'll need some backup and gives her a Martian weapon than can transform into any weapon, including her DEO gun. John tells Alex that she proved she didn't need a badge, and Alex hugs him.
After Lena and Lex complete the Non Nocere update, Lena uses it on Steve. He says that the hunger within him is gone. She says that Lex helped her focus on what mattered, and she tweaked the algorithm to allow for the feelings of injustice a subject might feel. Steve tells her that for the first time ever, he feels safe. He says that Lena is really the hero the world says she is, and Lena tells him that if Non Nocere works, the world won't need heroes.
Kara and Alex meet at Kara's apartment, and Alex shows Kara her new weapon as they eat. William texts Kara to ask if she's okay after Amy's attack, and Kara tells Alex that she needs to text him back. Kara admits that she's avoiding William to stop interacting with the real world, just like people are doing with Obsidian. She figures that it's just one dinner if she goes out with William, and Alex agrees.
Later, Kara goes to CatCo and meets with William. She says that it's common knowledge that William is at CatCo at night, and William admits that he's been overstepping. Kara says that it's fine and she made a mistake turning down his date invitation because she was scared. She accepts his invitation and William says that he's love going out with her.
Lex is examining the inverted immortality code when Querl arrives. Querl stares at him, and finally says that he encountered Lex's power core earlier that evening and was unable to take it offline. Lex didn't respond to his text request for assistance, and notes that the failsafe endanger 67% of National City's population. His ally dismisses it as a small price for progress, and reminds Querl that Supergirl always saves the day. Saving Obsidian Platinum ensured their worth to Leviathan. Lex goers to meet with Gemma outside and says that they delivered the results she desired but with panache and without her having to reveal her involvement. He suggests that there's no one better than himself to represent Obsidian, and soon everyone Earth will use the lenses. Gemma agrees and asks him what he expects in return. Lex says that it would be lovely to meet the rest of Leviathan, and Gemma tells him that they'll discuss it if Lex fulfills his promise.
