- As the term ends, Natalie gives Mrs. McClusky a musical send off, and the long-standing headmistress is given a variety of leaving presents.
- With an end of term dance in the offing, Jamie has a problem - he won't be admitted unless he has something resembling a Grange Hill uniform. He takes bits and pieces of clothing from Nick, Richard and Matthew, and changes in a phone booth. The new addition to the school causes confusion for Mr. Hargreaves, who's not happy about the half-dressed nature of Jamie's friends. Mr. Griffiths presents a gift to Mrs. McClusky: a handmade model of the school made out of lolly sticks! She thanks him, but tells him it will have pride and place indoors as she does not like garden ornaments. Unfortunately, Mr. Hargreaves, ignorant of this preference, drives back to school with a huge stone tortoise, and other ornaments in his car - as a leaving present for her. At his work experience in the Travel Agents, Trevor is surprised to see Georgina turn up with Don and ask for train passes for Europe. Trevor has resigned himself to not going to the dance, but Carol in the Travel Agents asks him to take her. Tasked with emptying out the lost property locker, Neil Timpson takes a bag of junk to the bottle recycling bin and is chastised by the collecting driver. He carelessly leaves his brother's CD player behind on the ground, and the now empty recycling bin is plonked down on top of it. When the brothers go looking for it, unaware of its fate, they are accused of stealing from the lockers, and are banned from the concert. While Mrs. McClusky is distracted, the staff carry her menagerie of garden stone ornaments to the stage in preparation for the presentation. The band's guitarist tries to help when the heavy stone tortoise is almost dropped, and he injures his hand. Jamie gives up his anonymity and steps in to replace him. Night falls, and people start arriving for the dance. Maria is waiting outside for Jamie - but she's told that he's already inside, and assumes that Fran's with him. A mystery singer is announced - Natalie - this pleases down-in-the-dumps Matthew, who had given up on seeing her. Outside the school, a revenging Barry Timpson phones the fire brigade, pretending to be Mr. Hargreaves. Mrs. McClusky is presented with her garden gifts, and has to put on a brave face. Calley gives a final announcement about the sad departure of Mrs. McClusky, and reveals another present: a slide show of photos that remember the happy days. As the slides are shown, Natalie sings a fond farewell to the long-standing headmistress of Grange Hill.—Geffers
