As of 2021, Charles Manson and Susan Atkins are the only convicted Manson family members who are deceased. Manson died of cardiac arrest resulting from respiratory failure and colon cancer on November 19, 2017, one week after his 83rd birthday. Atkins died of brain cancer on September 24, 2009 at age 61 and her last word was 'Amen'. Both remained incarcerated for the rest of their lives following the Tate-LaBianca murder trial and were denied parole several times.
As of 2021, Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van Houten, Charles 'Tex' Watson and Bobby Beausoleil are still alive and incarcerated in California State Prison for either the Tate-LaBianca murders or, in Beausoleil's case, the murder of Gary Hinman. Van Houten was granted a retrial after the mysterious death of her lawyer, Ronald Hughes, and was released on bond for six months. She was found guilty again of murder during a second retrial, and was sentenced again to life imprisonment.
