Bland attack

The disappointment here is not being said with any bias against Webby. She is not one of my favourite 'Ducktales' characters by a longshot and not one of the most interesting, but she can be amusing and cute when written well. Expectations though were not huge though, because the premise was not too promising. Being not an inspired or innovative one and had potential to be quite silly depending on how it was executed. Execution-wise, it could have gone either way.

Unfortunately, "Attack of the 50 Foot Webby" executed this premise the silly and dull way and also sees Webby at her worst. The final third redeems the episode from a bad episode to a lacklustre one, but overall "Attack of the 50 Foot Webby" is one the worst 'Ducktales' episodes in my view and am saying this with a heavy heart as with the case criticising any 'Ducktales' episode. It has its good things, but there is too much bad and the worst elements are close to being terrible.

Despite it being a big disappointment, "Attack of the 50 Foot Webby" still has its moments. What especially saves it from being worse is the McDuck tower sequence, which was exciting and the most imaginative it gets. Also did enjoy the bonding between Webby and Mr Fuzzy and appreciated that Bubba served a purpose in the episode (shocker!)

Some colourful and detailed animation can be seen in particularly the final third, as can some neat references, character-filled music including the ever timeless theme song and good voice acting. The material is weak but the voice actors give it all they've got.

"Attack of the 50 Foot Webby" has a lot of problems too sadly. Was not enamoured with the premise from the get go and the execution of it here did nothing to change that, actually thought even less of it. It just doesn't work, with far too much stress and heavy-handedly so on the whole Webby feeling physically too small, ignoring that there isn't any size difference between any of the younger characters. Another major problem is Webby herself, whether the most focused upon character is interesting and rootable or not makes or breaks any film, episode etc. and in this case Webby is impossible to root for, almost intolerable in fact and at her worst. Her petulance and sarcasm are overdone and she just comes over as a brat.

Very little here is funny, with the material lacking imagination and wit, instead feeling very tired. The story is very predictable and thin, filled with "seen from miles away" familiar plot tropes executed with no freshness or energy. Absolutely nothing new or special is done with the transformation, which makes the done to death story feel more tired, and there is nothing suspenseful or anything that grabs the viewer until the final third. The pace really flags, especially in the early stages. A couple of the characters are pointless, especially the bizarre inclusion of Professor Von Swine who serves no purpose in the episode. The Beagles have also served more point and been more interesting elsewhere. Everything here is perfunctory and like it was done with little enthusiasm, while too much of the action feels like padding.

In summation, very underwhelming episode. 4/10
