"The Unbreakable Bin" serves both characters well (and Gyro), if somewhat of a reminder of how it was sad that Magica was not in more episodes, and is a generally very well done late 'Ducktales' episode, one of the better ones. Is it among the best of the show? No, it is not near on the same level as the best of Season 1. It is the complete opposite though of being one of the worst and is more somewhere around a sturdy high middle. A long way from being a fragile episode.
Although the animation was not always great in the late episodes, to me it was fine here. Especially in the part with the comet and the bin. The vibrant colours also impress as well as the wonderfully strange visuals for Scrooge's nightmare. Some very authentic sound effects acconpany this part and for much of the episode. The writers clearly had fun with Scrooge but they also clearly did even more so with Gizmoduck and Magica. Gizmoduck's role is interesting and logical, that exchange between him and Magica is just too funny and his subplot entertains and is nowhere near as much of a disconnect with the Gyro story as it sounds on paper. Magica is a fun antagonist with an awesome entrance.
Loved too that the episode made the absolute most of Gyro's (on good form) inventive mind. the music is dynamic and characterful, the theme tune is still timeless. A lot is packed into the very eventful and absorbing story, but it didn't feel too crowded, rushed or confused. The voice acting is on point, with June Foray and Hamilton Camp bringing bucketloads of energy to their material. The writing is constantly funny and smart, with two particular gems being Magica's clever line regarding the tornado and Scrooge's (though it may puzzle others) "Now that I've stopped worrying about my money I don't mind spending it."
Having said that, "The Unbreakable Bin" is not flawless. The ending did feel rushed.
Felt too that Magica's defeat was almost too easy.
Concluding though, nicely done episode. 8/10
