Mary Alice, you ARE the weakest link
Rogue-3212 November 2007
I started watching this show between commercials of a different show, and I got hooked on it. From the title, I thought it would be really pathetic, with the judges (Mary Alice Stephenson and the ubiquitous Ben Stein, who brings smarts cred just by sitting next to Mary Alice) poking fun at the models' attempt to be not just pretty faces.

They do poke at them, and there is some genuine contempt shown, particularly by Mary Alice, who is coming off like yer basic school marm (more on that later), and one of the models, Andre, a Russian, has contempt for everyone and everything American. Boo, hiss. But I like most of the other models and the tasks they have to perform are creative at least, so I keep tuning in.

There was one particularly brainless contestant, blonde Rachael (there's an Aussie Rachael too), who finally got sent home on last night's episode - she had been leeching off the other models, barely scraping by in the tasks, and last night she hit her all-time low, by insisting that Daniel, one of the smartest (sorry, MOST smartest) models in the competition, had to be her partner. He was acting the gentleman and allowed her to glom onto him and of course, they failed the task - which involved cutting out geometric shapes to specific specifications - miserably; Rachael couldn't cut out even one of the shapes and therefore they lost.

Mary Alice was so (can't resist) bent out of shape by Rachael's fiasco and by her attempt to drag Daniel down with her that she called her out before the show's actual elimination phase to sternly inform her that she was booted. Felt like I was watching a high school reality show where one of the student's behavior was so disgraceful that she had to be seriously chastised and immediately expelled. Although she did deserve to go home long ago, I thought this was handled very poorly by Mary Alice (whom I think was also reacting to some catty comments that Rachael had made about her on camera). I personally would like to send Mary Alice home, but that's just me.

12/18: So it's over now and VJ won, which is OK with me, I mean it would've been pretty brutal if America's Most Smartest Model turned out to be a Soviet. And Andre is an unsufferable prick who, near the end, actually tried to pass himself off as a caring and loving individual. Hilarious.

Unprofessional Show

Warning: Spoilers
I originally watched this show in 2007 when it was airing. I watched A.N.T.M all of the time and assumed this would be a humorous take on the modeling business. However, I was extremely disappointed. I felt that rules were made up as the show was airing, extreme favoritism was shown towards V.J from Mary Alice, and the show did not showcase true model qualities or intelligence of any sort. V.J did shady stuff that would never be allowed on other competitive shows. On one occasion he hid an encyclopedia so that the other models could not study. Another occasion he lifted himself off the treadmill and Andre tried to notify Mary Alice and Ben Stein and they ignored him. V.J also listened in on information that was supposed to provide an "edge" to another team, he called a friend to lookup information, and he also copied every single photo Andre took during his final photo shoot. Honestly, from the very beginning you could tell Mary Alice favored him and didn't really care about anyone else involved. Mary Alice herself and extremely unprofessional as well. The entire season was a waste of my time. No wonder why they quit after the first season.

Quite fun
burney-imdb7 October 2007
I found this new reality show to be quite fun and enjoyable. Following the typical reality formula, they take a group of people and have them live together in a house. The group in this case is made up of models who consider themselves smart. The models compete in challenges combining their modeling and intellectual talents. In each episode, one or two models are cut based on their performance in the challenges. The last one remaining wins a prize of $100,000.

Ben Stein is amusing as always and the producers found a pretty good cast of models. The show is a bit mean spirited, but quite fun nonetheless, especially after having been subjected to so many hours of "America's Top Model" by female members of my household.

Proof that Reality TV Comes from Hell!

What is the point of this stupid forsaken show? I have shouted this question in the faces of billions of people and still no one can tell me which proves this show has no point. How did they come up with such a stupid concept? "Hey you know what a great show would be let's get some models and then ask them all regular questions and then when they get questions wrong we can show the world how stupid they are! HAHAHAHHAAAHAHAHA! People will love this show! And I like it because they are better looking than me so when they get simple questions wrong I can laugh at them and know that I am better than them where it really counts - in the brains department." "Yep you're smart all right." "Let's think up some more shows where paralyzed people marry millionaires and circus freaks!" "You are so smart!"

America's Most Awefulest Show

Warning: Spoilers
So from the title, we know that the show was going to be some kind of modeling show paired with a quiz show. I love competition shows that put creativity and smarts together so I thought this one might be fun and in the beginning, it was. Yes, there were the stupid people (there always are), and there were the smart people. I figured once the stupid people were gone it would really start to begin. However, while the questions were pretty easy and progressively got harder, I found that the show really wasn't looking for the smartest model, they were, like all competition shows, looking for someone who could play the game (and what do you know, that person won!)

The thing that really REALLY turned me off to this was the host, Mary Alice Stephenson's attitude toward everyone. Calling these women 'girls' but the guys were always 'men', she seemed to sneer at the ladies while lifting up the men for doing the same things. Her attitude was awful and short, like a teacher who had to put up with a misbehaving classroom and was at a breaking point. It just seemed through the whole show that she either didn't want to be there or wanted to prove that SHE was the "most smartest model".

At one point she even yelled at one of the contestants that the woman was too stupid to even be a model and to leave immediately. While I agree that this woman was less than intelligent, why would anyone think it's okay to yell at someone else on national television and bully them?

There was another incident where the models were told they got the night off for one of the contestants birthdays. They all got dressed up, went to dinner had too much wine then went to a party. At the party there were network officials and talent agents. One of the contestants a woman was standing talking to a group when a man she'd never met before putting a hand on her arm and started to lean in to talk to her. She pulled away and her body language was very standoff-ish. At judging which was also a shock, the man said that this model was standoffish and rude. Of course, she couldn't defend herself. When later at judging Mary Alice asked about it, the woman tried to say that he creeped her out, and as a woman, she has to be careful about strange men. Mary Alice berated her over it, telling her that excuse was BS and that Mary Alice goes to parties where she talks to men all the time. All I could think of was telling Mary Alice that yeah sure when you know you're at a party to network, of course, you don't mind men coming up to you and talking to you. This woman though had NO IDEA that's what was happening!

Through the whole competition, I really was disgusted at Mary Alice's attitude and I most definitely will not be watching or buying anything with her name attached to it anymore.

Ugh

Also, the winner was a cheater who several contestants tried to point out, but Mary Alice liked him so much that the show just didn't care that he'd cheated over and over and over.

This show had no integrity at all. Glad it only lasted one season. Hulu needs to remove it from the network. This show deserves no more money.

Better than ANTM
greekmuse9 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Since America's Next Top Model starting getting too ghetto I was on the lookout for something more professional. This filled the void. The caliber of the contestants is much higher than ANTM although I think overall the women picked were deficient in the brain department compared to men.

Mary Alice is an excellent host and Ben Stein was surprisingly very good for this role (his monotone plays well here). I liked most of the contestants. Again, some of the girls are real bimbos. As for the guys, the biggest poser was Andre who keeps saying he is Russian and Soviet to appear tough but it turned out he is neither one (presumably he is ashamed to be Romanian).

Too bad there was only one season. Overall very entertaining.
