At the 2002 FIFA World Cup Oliver Kahn became the first ever goalkeeper to win the Golden Ball Award, which is presented to the best player of the tournament as voted for by sports journalists. He conceded only three goals in the tournament, two of which were in the final. He later revealed he played the final against Brazil with torn ligaments in his right ring finger.
From 1970 to 2018, Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga a staggering 26 times. Bayern's success has attracted its fair share of admirers and at the 2018 annual general meeting, the Bayern Munich board announced there were 4,433 officially registered Bayern Munich fan clubs with over 390,000 members, in Germany and worldwide.
Bayern dominated the game, taking 35 shots on goal compared to Chelsea's 9. Remarkably, Bayern had 20 corners, none of which resulted in a goal - but Chelsea's only corner of the game was headed in by Didier Drogba.
Chelsea's Juan Mata covered more ground than anyone in the final, running over 16 kilometers in the 120 minute match. Famously, David Beckham ran the same distance in just 90 minutes in England's crucial World Cup qualifier against Greece in 2001.
Chelsea captain John Terry was suspended for the final and watched from the sidelines. However, when the game ended he appeared dressed in his full Chelsea kit, including shin pads, leading to much ridicule on social media. Terry later revealed it was a UEFA directive that suspended players should be in full kit and not suits.
