Phoenix Rising picks up after the shattering changes to Eureka at the end of the first season. Jack and Henry are still reeling from their deep losses and struggling to learn how to live in their new reality. While there is plenty of Carter's heartfelt humor, this is a darkly shadowed episode with a solid crisis to deal with / solve that is neatly intertwined with Eureka's new normal. The series has essentially rebooted itself for its sophomore season. A risk that only the coming episodes can justify. The writing is tight, the performances are real, and the story is interesting. Well done.
