Episode Six and Season One review (Zom-bite)
southdavid14 November 2019
So the first run of "Zomboat" draws to a close and my concluding thoughts about the series were that it was an amiable and mildly amusing series. I'm not desperate for more, but if there was a second season I'd probably watch it.

This last episode expanded the scope a little. We see that the army/government has been quarantining people and undertaking tests before letting people leave. They are looking for patient Zero, which they believe to be Jude, the overzealous Zombie whose been tracking Jo (Kara Theobold). Overconfident and undermanned, the site is soon overrun by the undead horde trapping our heroes from getting back to their boat, and to freedom.

Much better again for the finale, after last week's dull outing. Scope is bigger, extras, locations, this episode has all of those. We're again finding humour in the mundanity of British life when weighed up against the apocalypse, this time it's the bureaucracy and double speak of middle management and local government. That's when the show has been at its best, when highlighting that contrast. I think that if there is a second season, they would do better to push the writing towards that and away from, for example, Kat's constant movie references, it's not that they aren't good - it's just I feel the "knowing character in a horror scenario" has been done before. I'd also like to see the characters together more as a larger group, rather than splitting into pairs all the time.

Ultimately though, I'd like the show to be just that little bit funnier. . . that's the real improvement that's required, what could take the show from OK to essential. It's not that far away, the characters are good, the premise is solid, and the physical effects don't betray the budget, just a few more funny lines to tip it over the top. As I say though, if the decision is made to make more, I'll be back.

Brill, just keeps getting better and funnier. Please make more. Has every zombie cliche. Cat's character is in her element... would love to see them make it to London.

Episode 1.6

The finale of Zomboat did not hit any choppy waters. It also did not gather much speed.

It provided some answers as to how the zombie virus might have started. Jo took part in some medical experiments.

It also sets up a possible second series.

I did find Jo and Kat's bickering getting to be irritating. There also seems to be no beginning to Jo's shallowness.

The soldiers our team encountered did not seem to be well prepared to keep the zombies at bay. Good job that Kat is so cinema literate.
