- The 1960s are a turbulent decade for America. There are race riots, anti-war protests, hippies, Woodstock. It is also a turbulent decade for baseball, as one by one its "sacred" institutions fall.
- The 8th episode, or inning, is called "A Whole New Ball Game" because of everything new taking place--teams moving west, including to CA and Texas, historic stadiums being demolished, baseball records being broken (especially Ruth's single season record of 60 by Maris), the first indoor stadium was built. During the 1960s, the big hitters were Carl Yastrzemski, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, and Pete Rose. Bob Gibson and Sandy Koufax were two of the most dominant pitchers ever. Koufax, after 6 inconsistant years, he won the ERA title 5 of the next 7 years. But he retired at age 31 due to a bad arm. He became the youngest player ever elected into baseball's Hall of Fame. Bob Gibson won 7 straight world series games, all complete games. In 1969, after years of dismal play, they won the pennant. They beat the Braves and then won the world series by beating the Orioles in 5 games. Curt Flood, in 1969, was told he was being traded. He refused. He said, "I am a man, not a piece of property." He was fighting baseball's infamous "reserve clause".
