The Locals Don't Understand What "Private Donor" Means
Kp-murphy7 August 2019
As usual, this show is spectacular. Typically, I don't enjoy reviews that cover the subject of the documentary, judging the people who are featured, but in this case I feel like something needs to be said.

The people of Independence who were against the addition of the new football field; the people complaining about cutting art, soccer, and baseball; the people complaining about taxpayer money going toward something as seemingly extravagant as the new football field... these people are ignorant of the situation. They don't understand the meaning of the term "Private Donor," which is what boosters are.

In the first episode of this season, Coach Brown says, "Some great boosters in town have blessed us with donations." Boosters are PRIVATE donors, and when you make a donation to a college or university, you are allowed to delineate PRECISELY for what that donation is used. In all likelihood, the school would not have even received the money from the boosters unless it was given to the football program. No taxpayer money was used. ICC couldn't turn around and build a new facility to house extravagant art studios, or send that money over to the soccer team for new uniforms. That's not how donations work.

Other than the extreme naivete of the townsfolk - specifically the ones who are highlighted in this episode complaining about how much money is wasted on the football program - this is, as always, a great installment of this show.
