The Digi-Farming Life For me!
ExplorerDS678913 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Having watched this show for a while now, you probably think it would be so cool to live in that time. Have all those machines do the work for you, have things that were once time consuming be done instantaneously. However, if you were to actually live in such a future, you would be yearning for the good old days very quickly. So after George gets home from work, and Jane complains about spending 20 seconds in the super market checkout lane, Judy's date de jour drops her off in his van, and you know what they say, don't come a-knockin' if you see this van a-rockin'. Rock'n rollin', that is. We know how much George hates rock'n roll so he vehemently forces Judy into the house. That night, a new building erects instantly next door with an obnoxious neighbor who plays a drum machine to deafening volumes, bouncing people all over the place (Warning: this scene may induce seizures). But hope comes in the form of a conveniently placed television ad for DigiFarm, a state of the art housing development on the Planetoid Paradisio, as well as farm equipment that does all the work for you. How much would YOU pay? George wanted to go for it, but oh wait, he's got his job. Wait for it.....wait for it.... and he's fired. Okay, ol' George Jetson had a farm....D-I-G-I-F.....ARM.

En route to Planetoid Paradisio, they become lost. Even their GPS is clueless, and to make matters worse, the car runs out of gas so they crash-land on what appears to be their destination. After being forced to spend the night in a chicken coop and nearly freezing to death, they spend the next day setting up their sentient farm equipment. They do manage to plant seeds and install the insta-well, striking oil in the process! However, they ignore it for some reason. Hello? Oil well. You're rich. So they walk away from what might have been, abandoning their worthless Digifarm, and soon come to a vast land of lush greenery. They decide to settle here, so they build a house in the treetops, with Jane supervising, and with Elroy's know-how, they have electricity. But after a few days of nothing but asteroid apricots, George and Elroy decide to go huntin', where George is nearly eaten by a giant flower. yeah, roughing it was the life for them. However, their circumstances were about to change drastically for the Digi Corporation was searching for a new site on which to build one of their many condos, and they peep at George and Jane in the hot tub, quickly realizing the paradise they've found, and they want it. Instantly, they modernize and commercialize the whole planetoid. And slowly, history begins repeating itself, starting with that idiot with the drums moving in next door to them...AGAIN. So, George decrees they are going home. After somehow fixing their totaled car, the Jetsons head back to the earth, and slowly, their lives return to normal.

You know what? THIS should have been the Jetsons movie. They could have easily stretched this episode to 90 minutes and made it the feature film. This is a story that takes the characters out of their element, puts them in a primitive setting and they have to live off the land. A real fish out of water story. So instead of rehashing a bunch of old plots, why couldn't they have used this fresh, new, exciting one for the movie? Well, if they ever make that live action Jetsons flick they've been talking about for years, maybe they might take this episode into consideration; a lot of fun, adventure, good humor, great animation, great messages, "Swiss Family Jetson" is a fantastic romp. One of the series' best episodes. It's not to be missed.
