Famous Book Lures Famous Actors
ccthemovieman-115 November 2007
Since E.B. White's book, "Charlotte's Web," is such a well-known favorite, the producers of the film had no trouble rounding up some big name actors to voice the roles. Some of them give us a few quick comments here, such as Julia Roberts, who voiced "Charlotte," Dominic Scott Kay, who had the Wilbur's voice, and a few others such as Thomas Haden Church, Cedric The Entertainer, John Cleese, Steve Buscemi, Kathy Bates and Reba McIntrye. Al of them said they enjoyed the work and were honored to be part of White's famous story.

Those last two - Bates and McIntyre - sounded like they had the most fun, playing off each other as humorous cows in the picture. Cleese and Cedric The Entertainng both sounded like they capable of imitating any kind of voice you needed.

It was nice seeing how well director Gary Winick treated the young Kay during the voice-over segments, and flying him down to New Mexico several times to work with Roberts, who lives on a ranch in Taos. This was a fun, little feature and a nice bonus on the Charlotte's Web DVD.
