Still Family Guy with a twist.
jonahnathan31 October 2019
I personally enjoyed this episode. Family Guy do this kind of episode about once every season (the more modern seasons) and they are generally really good, for example this one. What I mean by "this kind of episode" is they cross the fourth wall and explore the unrealistic making of the show (and in this one it really worked!) They still included the over the top humour and the raunchy jokes that Family Guy ALWAYS include. I think that it was very cleverly done and well put together, and lots of laugh-out-loud moments.

Interesting Premise

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is pretty creative with some great jokes and moments sprinkled throughout. The Q reboot was definitely the best. Plus the second half was strong, and the digs at the streaming/TV audiences were pretty clever.

They gotta stop over explaining some of the jokes though. It kills a lot of the jokes on arrival. It happened mostly during the Lois sketch, but the rest of the episode was pretty good.

Awesome episode. Ignore the haters.

This episode was freaking hilarious XD. The social commentary and comedy was on point tonight about how rebooting tv shows is sometimes a bad idea. Batwoman is a prime example how reboots are reviled by the fans of the original works. Thank you FG!

pseudo intelectuals? this is not for you!
sokoldaniel21 October 2019
The episode is very cleverly mocks family guy haters, disney cliches and failing shows.

family guy is crazy and stupid, many times those stupid things hide a very good joke or a point, that uptight simpeltons just cant get,

this show is not for pseudo intelectuals, its for people who can get the jokes, the metaphores and satires

Family Guy serves as a mirror to America and all of Humanity for that matter, and many of the things shown on the show, happens in real life!

I hope will have Family Guy as long as we need :)

Return to form, a Middle Finger to television
cyrus-2809622 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In many way's a spiritual sequel to Emmy-Winning Episode. While the former made fun of many great shows on television, this episode destroys the worst of television. Of course critically acclaimed shows aren't safe either. Calling this a laugh a minute riot is selling this episode short. One of the best Family Guy episodes in years

Recycled ideas with lousy execution. Below standard.
JoJotheJoseph14 November 2019
Can recognize 80% of the jokes from prior episodes. Tired premise - similar with the Emmy's episode, just worse in execution. Feel like the writers are gradually running out of ideas for original storylines so they had to resort to a collage of thematically unrelated parodies.

For those who found the "social commentary" to be insightful - tell me, what did you get out of it beyond "all Netflix shows are bad and teens love sex"? Any depth of thoughts? Any exploration of what's behind all these phenomena?

Some would argue the show is self-aware that it is running out of ideas. I would argue... that it does not change the fact that it IS running out of ideas and becoming what it mocks. Sad.

Absolutely LOVED This
naydenlover13 March 2020
I do love when Family Guy does these three story episodes and this one is now one of my favourites! Taking on the "reboots are all the new rage" now Family Guy shows what would happen if they rebooted the show. not gonna like I love the Riverdale spoof because they used Stewie as one of his alternate characters giving him a different role but all the reboots were hilarious and I'd watch any one of them. And as a Archer fan, hearing three of the voices actors from that show was brillant! Definitely one of my favourite episodes of this season

Goodness gracious

All throughout the episode I was checking my phone and got all distracted, because it was really boring and unfunny. I turned it off 5 minutes before the end since I couldn't take it anymore.

What's happening with Family Guy???

Everyone loves H. Jon Benjamin, right?
mattiasflgrtll621 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After the network considers rebooting Family Guy, a focus group as well as Peter and his family get to watch different versions of the show. Will any of them be good enough for a reboot?

This is easily one of the most inspired spoof episodes. Every single parody had me laughing, some harder than others. The first one we get a look at is "Lois", an Ally McBeal-type sitcom centering around, as you can tell, Lois Griffin. From Quagmire and Joe as a gay couple, the rival who keeps adjusting his tie with a smirk on his face to the continous mask reveal at the end when Peter steps in helping his wife get the job, every joke and sitcom trope are integrated perfectly.

The second is my favorite of the bunch, a parody of Riverdale starring Chris, Ruth, Patty, Neil and Brian as the mopey teens. The unconventional pair-ups alone makes it interesting. How often do you ever see Ruth and Patty without Meg around? I thought giving Neil a deep voice was a nice touch, and made it all the more funnier. It was hilarious seeing most of the characters having buff or slim perfect bodies, especially Brian. It gets really absurd later on, suddenly turning to a Teen Wolf then superhero movie parody, but instead of feeling disjointed it only adds to the entertainment value. The "gender fluid" wordplay in one scene was gross, but priceless.

Speaking of odd pairings, it can't get any weirder than a Chris spin-off where he's now married to Tricia Takanawa. Well, if there ever were any Chricia shippers out there I guess you got your wish. I liked how any time Chris had to make a decision, Tricia made it easier for him by reminding him she's a hot Asian. The shots of the slippers and then Joe getting thrown out the window really got to me.

After that, you get every kind of crazy reboot idea you can think of, such as Family Guy being a dark serialized show (which some genuinely seem to want, believe it or not), Peter Griffin as BoJack Horseman (Yes, it looks just as screwed up as it sounds like) and a stand-up special with setups but no punchlines. The best one has to be H. Jon Benjamin playing every character except Jerome. Of course this is followed up by an audience member of the focus group voiced by Benjamin complaining about the fact that one of them wasn't voiced by him.

As for negatives, the only one I have is that I'm a little mixed on the reference to that interview where some of the show's writers claimed they were "phasing out" the gay jokes. I always thought that interview was stupid, and don't understand what they're doing working at a show where no one is free from being made fun of. Nevertheless, I guess this proves at least they didn't speak for everyone.

Where was I? Oh yeah, in the end Family Guy goes back to being the show it's always been. Except Joe is in it more. Now *that* I'm definitely all for.

Parodies of TV Shows
vivianla7 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The Griffins watch behind a glass window at FOX's focus group. FOX wants to see what Family Guy reboot would people be interested in.

We see a show revolving around Lois. Lois looks hot and energetic in workout gear - her hair tied up and she goes for runs. She works at a cute winery and I like the purse she carries.

They show a parody of a combo of Riverdale and Teen Wolf. They tease the shows' teenage target audience and the "sexiness" in the music, scenes, poses, etc.

We see guys showering in an open gang shower. Peter takes off his towel around his waist and we see two females in the mens' locker room.

They go to a club that they are too young to enter (Riverdale reference) and one of the females mysteriously gets killed. The group ponders just like in Riverdale over the death without much initial shock.

Next they explain how these shows' popular cast members tend to leave the show, messing up the show for the rest of the cast. They go on to bigger gigs. The next seasons will comprise of the disposable characters.

We see the son with an asian female character. He is now married to her. They zoom in close on her expressionless eyes and face. The asian demands he takes off his shoes or else he will not be able to have sex "with this age-defying physique". He throws out his shoes out the window.

Next we see a windy dark stormy scene with Peter. Peter sees Meg in the water, dead. The son is dead in the water next. Peter is dead in the next scene. Then it states the show's next season will come out in a few years, lol.

They decide Family Guy is fine just the way it is.

One of the best in years
NebraskanJoe17 July 2023
After Disney purchased half of 20th Century Fox, there was a big question of what would happen to shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy, shows that have literal decades worth of material mocking the company that now owns them. In the long run, nothing really changed besides the occasional embarrassing Simpsons short on Disney+; But at the time it was really was uncharted waters as to what would happen to these shows. But little did I know that the merger would spawn possibly the best recent Family Guy episode in years. Family Guy has done many, many self referential/self deprecating episodes, yet this one is so snappy and passive aggressive that almost every single joke just works. Its such an angry episode that really gives the characters life, It also helps that this episode specifically spawned a wave of angry people because there was a Bojack Horseman cutaway gag that lasted literally less than 10 seconds. Seeing Family Guy reference Bojack was funny enough, but the wave of anger it caused almost makes this episode even funnier. I'd almost go as far to say this episode is a modern classic, which is a high bar for this series.

Why do I keep watching?
c-lawrence-brown21 October 2019
FG has been bad for a while now so I should know better than to watch it. They already tried an episode similar to this one last year and it was the worst one of the entire show.... so they decided to try it again? This show is over... let it die.

I'm about to divorce this family
epoen25 October 2019
This show used to have me rolling. Alot of the episodes still do. Season 17 and 18 are just plain terrible. I cant see much humor in this season at all! It seems as if ever since they began talks of ending the series, that plan has been in motion, making each episode worse than the one before. Are they TRYING to kill the series?

Disney's The Reboot
bobcobb30130 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Family Guy has always been aware of what it is and up on pop culture (even if the weird filming schedule means some references are dated) which is why this episode did shine at times when they easily parodied reboots and Netflix and other things.

But it is still just not funny enough. Better than last week, but just not funny enough.
