When I stretch out my arms......
One of the rare MTV works of the "La Caméra Explore Le Temps" which does not concern French history ;but Charles the First was French king Henry The Fourth's son-in-law .
Michel Bouquet ,then a frequent member of the casts of the series, portrays a irresolute king .A coward ,he sent one of his ministers to the scaffold ,was influenced by her catholic queen who would urge him to be a true king .
François Chaumette is Oliver Cromwell, his deadliest enemy who would become a dictator, and after destroying the tyrannic rule ,wanted his son to succeed.
As the historians point out at the end of the movie,it was a travesty of a trial :many of the judges were dismissed. The future dictator had to get rid of a king, who, like his grandmother Mary Stuart, would have continued with his intrigues in captivity.
The execution of the king is depicted in lavish details.
